The Networking group develops control plane and data plane Networking stacks for Apple’s innovative products including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod, and Mac OS. Leveraging adaptive techniques, this group continuously enhances the user’s Network connectivity experience. As a Tools and Automation Engineer in this role, you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining Apple hardware to be used in continuous integration, test automation, and algorithm evaluation. Familiarity with Ansible and scripting languages, such as Python, will help you maintain a large fleet of devices and triage hardware and software issues. In addition, you will be responsible for lab design and policy, ensuring that our hardware infrastructure is operating at peak efficiency. You will also coordinate with and support cross-functional teams that use our infrastructure to ensure high standards and quality of their projects. This is an on-site role.
Description
The Networking group is looking for a passionate Network Lab engineer to join our team to develop multi-device testbeds for functional and performance testing. We are looking for a highly motivated lab engineer who has an aptitude to debug complex and layered software stacks. You will be self-motivated and will design and develop device configuration and management solutions. You will collaborate with multiple geographically distributed teams that operate in a dynamic and innovative environment.
Minimum Qualifications
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
Strong programming skills with Python and Shell scripting.
Proven ability to develop scripts and tools.
Ability to install software and configure servers and network gear.
Key Qualifications
Strong network debugging skills.
Ability to design complex testbeds and associated networks.
Monitor compute and network devices and resolve performance issues.
Proven track record in managing virtual compute infrastructure.
Ability to work with multi-functional engineering teams.
Excellent communication skills.
Experience debugging problems in a highly concurrent environment.
Experience with virtual environments is a plus.
Familiarity with the TCP/IP suite of protocols.
Familiarity with network configuration protocols (e.g., DNS, DHCP, Bonjour, etc.).
Track record of building labs designed for high availability and excellent performance.
Ability to stay focused and prioritize a heavy workload while achieving extraordinary results.
Experience with system performance characterization is a plus.
Innovative, flexible, and results-oriented with a positive attitude.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $136,300 and $248,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
