SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The Director of Annual Giving is a full time position reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer. The incumbent is responsible for developing donor-centric, data-driven strategies to acquire, retain, and upgrade supporters and meet established key performance indicators. The Director of Annual Giving plans, manages and analyzes Summit Academy’s comprehensive annual giving program, including stewardship and engagement of annual giving donors and development events. The Director of Annual Giving is a part of the Development leadership team and works closely with the Chief Development Officer in the oversight of operations and strategy for the department.

Annual Giving: Strategic Planning, Marketing and Management
Leads and oversees implementation of a comprehensive, multi-channel (digital, print, social media) annual giving strategy and work plan, including messaging, timing, and segmentation for upgrade, acquisition, renewal and other key audiences.
Partners with other internal staff to deliver on work plan goals, ensure best practices, and support all annual giving efforts with robust data, processes and infrastructure.
Develops an integrated solicitation strategy to meet donor acquisition, reactivation and retention goals and benchmarks.
Collaborates with Chief Development Officer and Major Gifts Officer to develop and implement strategies to identify and expand qualified annual donors into the Major Giving pipeline.
Partners with Development Communications and Marketing and Communications department to create marketing strategies, multi-channel solicitations, websites and other collateral for the annual giving program.
Partners with internal staff, prepares a detailed operating plan and calendar each year to execute the communications/marketing efforts for the annual giving program.
Leads planning and management of development events.
Develops and monitors annual giving and events budgets.
Communication, Solicitation and Engagement
Leads the creation of engaging content that demonstrates both appreciation and impact of annual contributions, including appeals, impact reports, videos, acknowledgement letters, thank you calls and other communication strategies.
Develops and executes engagement strategies and communications for key annual giving segments, including unassigned donors, first-time donors, volunteers, and event sponsors.
Solicits contributions and event sponsorships in collaboration with Chief Development Officer, Major Gifts Officer and volunteer leadership.
Promotes involvement and mobilization of volunteers and board members in expanding the organization's base of support along with Chief Development Officer and Board designees.
Reporting
Ensures annual giving plan is on track to meet goals and monitors fiscal year progress.
Generates regular analytical reports and updates on all dimensions of annual giving, events and other special project campaigns, as directed, to inform fundraising strategies and tactics.
Oversees the tracking and analysis of all annual giving solicitation results against progress toward participation goals. If necessary, make recommendations to pivot messaging, segmentation and channels to achieve annual giving benchmarks.
Manages annual giving appeal codes, analysis, and other key functions that support the annual giving multi-channel solicitation plan.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be experienced in the implementation of industry best practices for multi-channel solicitations, as well as system integration and organizational efficiency strategies that have resulted in measurable and significant increases in revenue, ROI, and number of active donors (experience developing marketing journeys; preferably using marketing automation tools preferred).
Demonstrated success in managing mid- to large-scale development events.
Understanding of and adherence to donor privacy best practices and ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in donor management software (experience using Salesforce and affiliated applications preferred).
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated interpersonal, active listening and strategic planning skills.
Experience with budgeting, planning and project management.
Strong commitment to the mission and goals of SAOIC (experience securing revenue for workforce development and/or education and/or diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives preferred).

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional school and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at conversational levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 10 pounds to waist height; and to bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is not eligible for overtime pay.
May require occasional evenings, weekend, and early morning work hours as needed to meet business needs.
It is expected that the Director spend the majority of their time working out of their SAOIC workspace.

TRAVEL
This position may require travel within the Twin Cities metro area.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's level degree in one of the following fields: Business, Public Affairs, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or similar study; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
A minimum of 6 years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization with a proven track record of building and implementing successful annual giving programs; strong working knowledge of individual giving strategies; and successful team management and mentorship.
