SEIU’s Strategic Initiatives Department seeks a Senior Research Analyst (PS-3) to join its Cross Division Research Team. This person will lead research in support of organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, and other activities 1) within the Department, 2) across SEIU's industries and campaigns, and 3) alongside SEIU Local Unions and Affiliates. This position is based in Washington, DC. Primary Responsibilities: Provide advanced research services requiring significant expertise in industries, companies, public jurisdictions, and issue areas; sophisticated strategic analysis and targeting ability; broad and well-developed technical skills; and substantial experience working with other International staff and Local Unions. Initiate and oversee major internal and external projects supporting organizing and contract campaigns. Conduct in-depth industry or topical studies. Develop and refine databases, research systems, and methods. Provide advanced research support to other International and Local Union staff and leaders, including sophisticated analyses and expert technical support in organizing campaigns, contract negotiations, arbitration hearings, and other public settings. Assist in the development, planning, and coordination of Department workflow and activities. Mentor Field Researchers and Research Analysts on sources, methods, and analysis. Assist in the day-to-day guidance, training, and development of other Department staff. Represent SEIU in external forums and maintain relationships with other unions, outside consultants, academics, issue activists, and other union allies in support of SEIU organizing and contract campaigns and issue areas. Perform other duties as required to support the Department and its mission. Contacts:

This position reports to the Senior Research Coordinator for the Cross Division Research Team and works independently. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in economics, business, or other related areas and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant research experience, including experience directing and evaluating the work of others. Or a Master’s degree in economics, business administration, political science, or other related areas and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant research experience, including experience directing and evaluating the work of others. Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough knowledge of strategic and qualitative analysis. Thorough knowledge of financial and data analysis. Knowledge of economic policies and statistical analysis. Ability to perform strategic and statistical analysis. Ability to produce quality research reports and materials. Ability to serve as project manager and see projects through to completion. Ability to design, plan, and implement tasks for research projects. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; proven presentation skills. Ability to analyze data and develop logical solutions. Technical writing and editing skills. Advanced skills in the use of personal computers for financial and data analysis. Advanced skill in the use of spreadsheets, databases, database management systems, presentation software and on-line information sources. Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Long and extended hours and travel required.
