TITLE: Director of Financial Aid
NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK
The Financial Aid Director is responsible for the functions of the financial aid department, including hiring staff, processing students' financial aid, calculating refunds and repayments, preparing financial aid budget reports, and more. The Director develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive financial aid services for students on federal, state, institutional, and private levels, providing guidance throughout the student’s enrollment. This position reports to the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Compliance.
Financial Aid Director Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures that the University has exception-free audits and program reviews by remaining current on all federal and state laws and regulations, implementing and/or modifying office procedures to comply, and preparing all required reports accurately and timely.
Contributes to student satisfaction through quality customer service in all aspects of financial aid administration.
Informs students about their eligibility for financial aid by directing a system for collecting and evaluating applications and timely awarding of all types of financial aid.
Administers satisfactory academic progress (SAP) evaluations and oversees the appeal process for students seeking reinstatement of financial aid eligibility.
Conducts verification of student and parent application data in compliance with federal criteria.
Awards federal and state financial aid in compliance with established regulations and procedures.
Prepares award packages for eligible applicants and certifies loan applications for eligible students.
Checks loan agreements for accuracy and completeness per policies.
Maintains and reviews account records, updating and re-categorizing them as status changes occur.
Analyzes credit, financial status, and property evaluations to determine loan feasibility.
Assists in selecting financial award candidates using electronic databases for certifying loan eligibility.
Approves loans within specified limits.
Submits loan applications to credit analysts for verification and recommendation.
Calculates available funds and debt for planning payoff methods and estimating debt liquidation.
Maintains current knowledge of all credit regulations.
Establishes goals and work standards, evaluating program results.
Develops effective techniques for informing prospective students about financial aid availability.
Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of assigned staff.
Prepares comprehensive, clear, and accurate presentations and reports.
Develops and maintains the budget for the assigned office.
Communicates effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with staff, students, faculty, administrators, and representatives from other jurisdictions.
Works with discretion and confidentiality.
Provides training in various financial aid procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience performing the duties of this job. Demonstrated experience in student financial aid, including counseling, eligibility determination, need analysis, verification, and packaging required. Experience with computers and online data systems required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of federal financial aid programs and supporting regulations.
Knowledge of Title IV program fund regulations.
Familiarity with U.S. Department of Education rules and regulations.
Understanding of current tax regulations and their implications on financial aid.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques.
Skill in researching regulatory information and resolving complex financial questions.
Ability to prioritize and manage a significant caseload.
Ability to interpret and explain complex regulations and policies to a diverse audience.
Ability to work independently.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
