Assistant Director of Advanced Study, Vovis Center for Research and Advanced Study and Health Professions Advising Knox College is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic team member and leader, who is passionate about creating equitable and engaged learning and research environments. The Assistant Director will provide vision and leadership for research/creative work and advising and will be a thought partner with the Director on all aspects of Vovis Center operations and programs.

About the Vovis Center The Vovis Center for Research and Advanced Study and Health Professions Advising supports student engagement in signature experiences that enhance the academic curriculum. The Vovis staff is a small but mighty team that serves students and partners with faculty and works collaboratively with other departments across campus to achieve its goals.

On the research/creative side of the house, the Vovis Center leads the Knox Summer Scholars program and hosts the annual HORIZONS research/creative work symposium every May. Throughout the year, the Center disburses significant levels of funding to students to support their research and creativity via the Richter Memorial Fund and other endowed funds. On the health professions side, the Center advises students exploring a healthcare career, connects students to off-campus shadowing opportunities, and hosts regular guests, speakers, and workshops.

Assistant Director of Advanced Study Responsibilities Student Advising & Support

Connect students with healthcare shadowing and clinical opportunities

Advise students pursuing a career in the health professions

Support student applications for grant funding and nationally competitive fellowships, such as the Fulbright U.S. Student program

Programmatic Support

Provide implementation support for short-term health shadowing programs and faculty-led research programs

Serve on planning and leadership team for the Knox Summer Scholars and HORIZONS

Work with the director on strategic initiatives, as directed

Leadership & Supervision

Supervise a small group of student leaders, the Prehealth Ambassadors

Coordinate the prehealth Peer Mentor program

Supervise one student employee

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Master’s preferred; Bachelor’s required

Experience in higher education or non-profit administration, library science, a healthcare profession, counseling, or marketing and communications

Commitment to the success of students of diverse backgrounds and experiences and to the mission of a diverse educational community.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing, and administrative skills to interact with students, alumni, staff, faculty, and prospective families.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and exercise discretion in communication with varied constituencies.

Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications and/or the ability to learn new technologies quickly and efficiently.
