About the Department:

We prepare and connect career-ready students for post-graduate success. University Career Services (UCS), a unit within the Division of University Life (UL), is the centralized career center for George Mason University (Mason), serving 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students. UCS is dedicated to helping students identify and pursue opportunities where they can make a positive impact in a complex and quickly evolving world. In partnership with our strong network of employers, alumni, and faculty we are able to break down barriers and successfully connect students with meaningful opportunities in their industries of interest to help them reach their full potential and advance not only themselves socio-economically, but their families too. Existing services and programs include one-on-one appointments, career exploration, industry specific programs, career fairs, experiential learning opportunities and graduate school preparation.

About the Position:

The Employer Engagement Consultant is responsible for cultivating relationships with a broad range of companies and organizations in a portfolio of designated industries with the goal of advancing recruitment of Mason's undergraduate and graduate students into meaningful internships and full-time employment.

Responsibilities:

Charged with strategically advancing employer relationships through collaborative efforts involving university partners, related academic departments, and the Mason alumni community;

Regarded as a content knowledge expert and clearly articulates Mason's brand and student demographics to advance the hiring of undergraduate and graduate students from all fields of study;

Facilitates and implements opportunities for employers, with a special focus on alumni representatives of employers, to network with students both on and off campus;

This role includes being present at evening information sessions and events for designated industries;

Collaborates across all functions of the UCS team to provide a world-class career development program to benefit all undergraduate and graduate students;

Stewardship of Existing Employers:

Manages employers with established recruiting relationships at the university to deepen existing recruiting efforts and to ensure a meaningful recruiting experience;

Communicates on a strategic and frequent basis to assess existing recruiting priorities and results and to offer creative ways to advance recruiting on and off campus;

Identifies opportunities to increase hiring of graduate and undergraduate students with employers in new job functions;

Attends and supports on-campus recruiting events hosted by employers;

Relationship Cultivation with New Employers:

Coordinates and leads research on designated emerging industries, new companies, industry developments, and recruiting trends to effectively engage prospective employers, including alumni working at those employers;

Collaborates with key partners (including faculty and university partners) to strategically engage prospective employers to establish a recruiting relationship;

Travels to meet with employer representatives at their respective locations, as well as conferences and other networking events;

Increases employer presence on campus through participation in career fairs, special programs, and networking events;

Regularly collaborates with multiple Career Services roles connecting and assigning employers to career events to increase networking opportunities for Mason students;

Assists in planning employer engagement events in collaboration with a variety of staff, attends employer events and tracks and reports-out related data and trends;

Actively participates in regular, collaborative cross-functional meetings to share employer trends and industry/workforce data;

On-Campus Program Support:

Collaborates with employers, Career Services' staff and additional campus partners to educate students about industries, career opportunities, and preparation requirements;

Actively participates in programs offered by the Career Services colleagues;

Off-Campus Program Coordination:

Collaborates with employers and alumni to develop, implement, and attend opportunities for students to engage on-site with organizations across the country through site visits, special programs, and networking events;

Reporting and Communication:

Tracks all interactions and progress with employer engagement efforts and prepares reports to present and distribute;

Meets regularly with faculty and University partners to effectively communicate industry, employer, and recruiting trends of existing and prospective employers;

Serves as a centralized resource for campus partners to engage employers in university efforts (classroom visits, capstone projects, participation in student organization events, etc.);

Supports staffing needs for large-scale events (e.g. career fairs, orientation), both in-person and virtually;

Contributes to UCS strategic plan development and implementation;

Serves on division/university committees to represent UCS;

Serves as liaison to university departments as appropriate; and

Participates in all-staff meetings, trainings and symposia for UCS and the division.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;

Experience typically obtained in one or more years in business development, sales, client management, talent acquisition, career services or elsewhere within university setting, coordinating events for college students;

Experience in building and maintaining relationships with clients leading to sustained partnerships;

Demonstrated advanced customer service skills; and

Demonstrated ability to develop and advance relationships with new organizations/businesses/clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience typically obtained in three or more years in relevant professional environments;

Experience using CRM software;

Experience in presenting data and reports to stakeholders;

Knowledge of recruiting process for internships and full-time positions;

Knowledge of workforce and industry trends related to hiring/talent acquisition; and

Demonstrated proficiency with databases and/or CRM software (e.g. Handshake, Salesforce).
