Security Engineer

for ensuring the security and integrity of the client's IT infrastructure, systems, and data in

Austin, Texas.

This role will support the TIERS Cloud Migration initiative by providing system administration, security analysis, and infrastructure support. The Security Engineer will perform security architecture reviews, monitor security operations, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide infrastructure and operations support for both on-premises and cloud environments. Analyze on-prem and cloud security measures and monitor ongoing security operations. Implement security measures to protect computer systems, networks, and data from unauthorized access and breaches. Stay current with industry standards, cybersecurity trends, and threat intelligence to anticipate and mitigate potential security breaches. Conduct security architecture reviews and assess compliance with regulatory requirements, such as NIST 800-37, NIST 800-53, and MARS-E controls. Develop and manage POA&Ms (Plans of Action and Milestones) and Corrective Action Plans for addressing vulnerabilities and improving security posture. Collaborate with the HHSC/TIERS Security team to review security violations and implement procedural improvements. Provide proactive research and mitigation strategies for emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and exploits. Support Windows and Linux operating systems and applications, ensuring their security. Deliver database support for Oracle, MSSQL, and Postgres. Utilize tools such as Archer GRC, Dynatrace, Splunk, Imperva Web Application Firewall, and Qualys for monitoring and managing security. Facilitate and lead calls for security projects, including kick-offs, notifications of critical findings, and test result reviews with remediation recommendations. Prepare detailed reports tailored to technical and non-technical audiences, and communicate findings effectively in writing and verbally. Train staff on network and information security procedures to enhance organizational security awareness and compliance. Ensure security systems are updated in alignment with software and hardware changes.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

In-depth experience with ITIL methodologies and ticketing systems, including Remedy and ServiceNow. Proficiency in performance monitoring and capacity management tools. Availability to perform critical support tasks in a fast-paced environment, including coordination during security incidents. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve security issues effectively. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and implement solutions for network and data processing security challenges. Experience preparing and presenting security assessments and recommendations to stakeholders. High-level knowledge of network facilities, computer hardware/software, and security software. Expertise in cybersecurity principles, threat detection, and risk management. Proficiency in regulatory compliance frameworks, including NIST guidelines. Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
