We are seeking a talented Software Engineer with a passion for multimedia, driver and/or firmware development, and a desire to actively contribute toward the delivery of high quality, compelling Windows experiences on first generation silicon. This position will involve partnering closely with silicon architects, IHVs, OEMs, Windows OS platform teams, Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group, and other teams to deliver end-to-end optimized device experiences for camera and camera effects.

An understanding of software lifecycles in a device development environment and the interplay between software and hardware development and schedule is preferred for this role. Key responsibilities for this position include development of kernel and user mode drivers and firmware, optimization of driver stacks with Windows OS components and driving performance, stability and feature enhancements for the device level experiences aligned with IHV silicon roadmaps and Microsoft strategies. Responsibilities

Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.

Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.

With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.

Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and providing estimates.

Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C and C++ OR equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

Deep design, coding, debugging and problem solving skills

Passion for working in multimedia, particularly video codecs, camera and/or audio

Deep design, coding, debugging and problem solving skills

A desire to work with devices and work close to the hardware

Experience in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers

Experience with video codecs, camera and/or audio development, particularly for the Windows platform

Experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interactions

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.
