DescriptionJob Objectives:Responsible for underwriting a complex book of business, employing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals, management and growth of the overall portfolio of business, implementing proper underwriting discipline/guidelines, marketing and servicing of existing and potential clients.  Job Duties:Execute the business plan for the development, management and expansion of a portfolio of accountsPrioritize and evaluate submissions in order to identify those accounts that provide the greatest opportunity for profit consistent with the business plan and corporate profit objectives Review and analyze underwriting submissions, slips and contractsPrice and analyze coverage, structure and exposuresSet appropriate terms and conditions following the Company business strategy to quote selected risksEvaluate terms and structures in conjunction with Actuarial staff to meet corporate profitability targetsAuthorize quotes/binders/invoices as appropriateExercise proper underwriting pricing and discipline to meet profitability goals, complying with underwriting guidelines, systems and proceduresNegotiate with brokers and clients for new and renewal businessAttend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners and other social outings as applicableAttend important industry conferences and seminars as appropriateLiaise with brokers, internal auditors and Claims, Accounting, IT and Legal departments as appropriateExpand existing portfolio of business by developing existing relationships and new prospective clientsMaintain overview of markets and industry developments through traveling, attending market conventions and seminars and other means to optimize the underwriting and portfolio strategySupervise underwriting assistants and associate underwriters to ensure information is inputted into the in-house system in an accurate and timely mannerConduct pre-quote and mid-term underwriting audits as neededOn a quarterly basis review the development of the portfolio against original projectionsPeriodic reporting to manager regarding submissions and current portfolio contentQualificationsJob Requirements: University degreeProfessional designation such as CPCU, ACII or similar preferred10-15 years underwriting experienceEstablished relationships with brokers/markets/companiesSuccessful track record in developing and maintaining reinsurance placementsExcellent negotiation skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skillsStrong attention to detail and quantitative skillsAbility to work to deadlines and prioritize tasksAbility and willingness to work outside normal office hours as requiredSalary range:  $150,000 - 200,000Compensation:The annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similar positions in the market.  The actual base pay for the position may be above or below the listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but not limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training, and other conditions of employment.  Base salary represents one component of Allied World’s comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.Our BusinessAllied World Assurance Company Holdings, Ltd, through its subsidiaries, is a global provider of insurance and reinsurance solutions.
