Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. We are looking for an Senior Linux Engineer to join a growing Silicon Development Compute Solutions team embedded within Microsoft’s Silicon engineering team. The Senior Linux Engineer will be part of a dynamic HPC administration team. This Senior Linux Engineer will have primary responsibilities overseeing services in our Linux-based server infrastructure working with the Silicon Development Compute Solutions team, CAD Operations, and Engineering to support a scalable services and architecture. Responsibilities
End-to-end ownership of services such as Linux Engineering Display (Exceed Turbo X, VNC, VDI, etc.) and Authentication (RHDS, RHIDM, Free IPA), including the implementation and maintenance of these systems to ensure an excellent customer experience while driving innovation and operational excellence.
Advanced administration of Linux servers, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of various distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Rocky8), ensuring smooth and efficient operation of both on-premise and Azure Cloud infrastructure.
Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems to maintain peak performance and reliability, monitor system performance, and implement enhancements to improve efficiency.
Collaborate with Engineering and CAD teams to tackle and solve complex, challenging problems, driving innovation and optimizing system performance.
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for configurations, processes, and procedures related to support technologies.
Provide technical support and mentorship to team members, fostering their development and ensuring effective knowledge transfer.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
OR equivalent experience.
3+ Years’ Linux License Server Administration
3+ Years’ system automation experience using some scripting language such as Shell, Perl, or Python
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid understanding of networking, systems administration, automation, and monitoring
Understanding of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) concepts
Experience with cloud platforms like Azure, Google, AWS
Service Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
