Adjunct Assistant Professor: Media Arts + Practice (Tangible Computing)

Apply School of Cinematic Arts Faculty Los Angeles, California The Division of Media Arts + Practice within the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California seeks an adjunct faculty member for an undergraduate course titled IML 404: Advanced Platform: Tangible and Spatial Computing which explores a full range of human-computer interactions across diverse interfaces. The course asks how we might broaden the ways in which we interact with digital information and requires expertise in haptics, physical computing, and spatial interfaces, as well as an instructor with expertise in computational design broadly, 3D modeling, and environmental mapping. The instructor should be able to use Processing, Arduino, and p5.js, and also contextualize practices of making both historically and theoretically. Experience in several of these areas of media practice is preferred: Emerging practices of interactive and tangible media Aesthetics of interactive and tangible media History, theory, and practice of contemporary media studies Visualization practices Basic coding Digital culture Minimum education:

BA or BFA in media-related discipline Minimum experience:

1-3 years of professional experience in emerging technologies and paradigms Preferred education:

MFA or MA in media-related discipline Preferred experience:

3-7 years of professional experience in emerging technologies and paradigms USC reserves the "Adjunct" appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean. The hourly rate range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00 per hour. This is an adjunct 25% FTE position.
