POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE - CHANDA LAB - Virology and Immunology

The Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, California, United States, 92189

Description

ABOUT US:

Scripps Research is a nonprofit biomedical institute ranked as one of the most influential in the world for its impact on innovation. We are celebrating our 100-year legacy in 2024. This significant milestone marks a century of seminal discoveries in immunology, infectious diseases (such as COVID-19, flu, HIV), neuroscience, heart disease, cancer, and more. Located in La Jolla, California, the institute houses six research departments, multiple Nobel laureates, a top-ranked graduate school and a leading postdoctoral training program. We work hand-in-hand with researchers of the Scripps Research Translational Institute and Calibr to merge foundational studies in biology, chemistry and computer science with translational science to produce pioneering drugs and advances in digital and precision medicine. Together, we cultivate new scientific leaders and expand the frontiers of knowledge to deliver medical breakthroughs impacting human health around the globe. If you have a passion for making a difference, this could be your opportunity to join our transformative team.

Celebrating a Century:

The Chanda Lab has joined the Immunology and Microbiology Department at Scripps Research, where we will continue to focus on the molecular mechanisms of virus-host interactions using advanced technologies such as CRISPR, RNAi, omics, super-resolution 3D microscopy, among others. We seek to understand a pathogen's ability to exploit the host cellular machinery and evade innate immune defenses to drive viral pathogenesis. Currently, our efforts target several RNA viruses of pandemic potential, including influenza virus, coronavirus, flaviviruses, and filoviruses. Through our Calibr arm, we have undertaken a robust drug-discovery program. The lab is specifically seeking to develop next-generation therapeutics for the treatment of viral infection, cancer and autoimmune disease. Our team's transformative research and the unique environment of the Scripps will cultivate the next generation of scientific leaders.

POSITION TITLE:

Postdoctoral Associate

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for talented, highly motivated post-doctoral candidates with a strong interest in basic virology and immunology. The successful candidate will join a team investigating mechanisms of virus-host interactions, with a focus on identifying cellular antiviral responses and molecular signatures linked to severe disease. These studies will utilize systems biology, including large-scale technologies (CRISPR/RNAi, proteomics/ chemoproteomics, chemical biology, NextGen Sequencing, etc.), as well as fundamental virology and more traditional cellular/molecular biology and biochemistry-based approaches. The person filling this position is expected to play an important intellectual, technical, and scientific role in projects. The candidate will also assist with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts, and contribute to additional projects in the lab. (Position supported by NIH funding.)

This position will require BSL-2 training.

Please submit a CV/Biosketch and a Cover Letter addressing the following topics: (i) how does your research experience fit with our science? (ii) what can you uniquely bring to our research program & lab? (iii) and what are your long-term professional goals, and how can joining our team fit in these goals? and (iv) why you think you will be exceptionally successful in this role.
