Director of Field Operations Geothermal energy is a massive renewable energy resource sitting below our feet. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. At Zanskar, we’re using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal a cheap and vital contributor to a carbon-free electrical grid. As the Drilling Superintendent, you would have an integral role in developing our portfolio of new geothermal projects by overseeing day-to-day drilling operations. Additionally, you would work closely with our R&D teams to develop and implement novel drilling programs for temperature gradient campaigns and full-size wells. We will begin reviewing applications in early January. Responsibilities: Direct management and supervision of the wellsite and all phases of drilling operations. Ensure drilling operations are compliant with all applicable government regulations, company/client policies, and industry standards. Develop schedules, allocate resources, ensure adequate levels and availability of inventory, and manage costs to optimize company goals and best practices. Foster continuous operational improvement/efficiency and growth of drilling program. Provide technical guidance and support across multiple departments. Recruiting/hiring, training, and managing drilling crews. Provide strong leadership, accountability, mentorship, and motivation to Field personnel. Anticipate, quickly troubleshoot and resolve operational, equipment and maintenance issues to minimize rig exposures to downtime or unplanned events. Coordinate and ensure that preventative maintenance is performed to efficiently maintain equipment. Build long-term relationships with shareholders, suppliers, and contractors that promotes company goals. Qualifications: 10+ years of drilling experience. 3+ years of supervisor/management experience. Ability to travel and perform fieldwork as required. Extensive and wide-ranging understanding of various drilling techniques, equipment, procedures, and safety protocols. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and execute in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Demonstrated experience implementing drilling programs in new or unproven areas with limited support services and limited offset well data. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, learn quickly, and collaborate effectively. Preferred Qualifications: Class A CDL. Licensed well driller (western states). Background in geothermal and/or geotechnical investigations. Possess a strong ownership mentality. Experience with well control, sonic drilling, as a Rig Manager or Tool Pusher. Experience with direct-push, sonic, mud rotary, reverse circulation, and core drilling. Strong understanding of well control methods, drilling/circulating fluids, risk management, and industry compliance. General Requirements for Field Operations: At least 18 years old. Be eligible to work in the U.S. Valid driver’s license without any major infractions in the last three years. A commitment to the safety of yourself, others, and the environment. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, professionalism. Possess a high degree of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail. Must be self-motivated and work with minimum direct supervision. Comfortable working outdoors continuously in the elements to a high operational tempo. Ability to perform physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks; to include, but not limited to, periodic bending and kneeling and lifting, pushing, and pulling 50 lbs. Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to perform the job duties safely and efficiently. Possess good mechanical and technical aptitude, with competency operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment. Comfortable using a GPS and navigating in remote settings. Able to use computers, specifically Google products (e.g., Google Docs, Sheets and Directories). Must exercise good housekeeping and working in a neat, orderly manner.
