37.5 Office Hours:
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (30-minute lunch break, flexibility required for projects or repairs) Travel:
Required to be in the Boston office at least one day per week (Tuesday or Wednesday TBD). Travel across Massachusetts to one of 300 state locations as needed for projects or repair issues. Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join the Network and Telecommunications Team. Reporting to the Manager of Network Engineering & Telecommunications, this role involves designing and implementing enterprise network solutions, troubleshooting issues, and providing Tier III support. The engineer will also manage vendor coordination, handle network monitoring, and provide recommendations for improving systems availability and performance. Key Responsibilities Planning and Design:
Conduct short- and long-term planning to meet evolving network requirements. Design and implement network systems and unified communication solutions. Network Administration:
Configure and maintain routers, switches, and firewalls (Extreme Networks, Junipers, Cisco, Palo Alto). Administer monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Fluke, Wireshark). Implement and maintain disaster recovery plans. Troubleshooting and Support:
Provide Tier III support for network issues, including connectivity and performance troubleshooting. Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve network problems. Project Implementation:
Execute project plans as assigned, monitor progress, and report impediments. Provide comprehensive documentation upon project completion. Performance Optimization:
Evaluate network performance to ensure alignment with business needs. Recommend and implement changes for system enhancements. Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
Coordinate with vendors for service evaluations and maintenance. Communicate effectively with team members, project teams, and stakeholders. Qualifications Education and Experience:
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience. 10+ years of relevant IT work experience. Technical Expertise:
Proficient with network protocols and systems: EIGRP, BGP, GRE, OSPF, MPLS, etc. Experience with monitoring tools: SolarWinds, ExtremeCloudIQ, Wireshark, SNMP. Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere). Knowledge of VOIP systems (Avaya, Mitel, Nortel) and SD-WAN technologies. Certifications:
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise required. Juniper Networks (JNCIE/JNCIP). CISSP or equivalent security certifications. Extreme Networks Certifications. Microsoft Certifications. ITIL 4, Agile (e.g., Scrum). Additional Requirements:
Massachusetts Driver's License. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
