Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is passionate about providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers worldwide, powered by exceptional technology. This work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business. As part of the Broadcast & Content Services team, we are proud to be responsible for linear, video-on-demand (VOD), and non-linear delivery (NLD) media workflows delivering thousands of Disney-owned Sports, General Entertainment, and News assets daily to service providers (MVPDs, vMVPDs, SVOD) worldwide, including Disney streaming services. This team manages supply chains for long-form, short-form, and creative/promo content for ESPN, Disney Cables, Freeform, FX Channels, National Geographic Channels, ABC, ABC Owned and Affiliated Digital feeds, ABC National Feeds and ABC News Live Hybrid. It is an incredibly complex ecosystem that requires us to manage an intricate integration platform for media asset ingest, transformation, normalization, packaging, scheduling, and global distribution to downstream content providers in the exact format they expect for their play-out. That represents several hundred thousand hours and several million files processed every year. This role will join the Broadcast & Content Services organization as the senior engineer of the team which develops, operates, and maintains media workflows supporting media supply chains for US domestic networks and studios owned by TWDC. We seek an individual who can develop and execute test plans, manage QA resources, and is comfortable in cross-functional interactions with teams in charge of the other parts of the media supply chain.
Responsibilities: Plan the QA teamwork and assignments. Test scripting and execution based on functional specifications. Hands-On participation in the functional and regression testing for applications such as (but not limited to) Mediator, MediaHub, BPM, SDVI. Coordination with engineering on testing requirements and issues solving. Working with the vendor development team to report and verify bugs. Define test scope for each testing cycle. Working with QA team members offshore. Using Jira for defect tracking and test execution. End to End testing for workflows that span across multiple applications. Working with Jira for defect tracking internally (with Operative development departments). Documenting test cases for new functionalities. Demo and train offshore QA members when new functionalities are implemented. Basic Qualifications: 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role Bachelor’s degree, and/or equivalent work experience Deep expertise of Media Workflows and Media Supply Chain, including broadcast/VOD playout systems. Highly proficient with Media Asset Management systems and workflow orchestrators such as Evertz Mediator and Signiant’s Reach Engine. Experience with 3rd party vendor solutions from Telestream, Imagine, SDVI, Evertz, Signiant, and Aspera. Deep knowledge of broadcast and VOD standards. Preferred expertise with internal Disney tools such as Media Hub. Excellent verbal and written communicator, able to interact with leadership and business partners daily.
The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA and Santa Monica, CA is $95,300.00 to $127,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
