Job Description The Vertex Internship Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. Job Summary : If you are interested in learning how we monitor the safety of our patients who are in clinical trials, we have a great opportunity to join the Clinical Trial Safety Surveillance (CTSS) group for a summer internship where you will be part of a team of scientists and physicians who oversee Vertex clinical studies. We are looking for someone with a strong background in science (biology, health sciences preferred) who is willing to actively participate in the day-to-day responsibilities of monitoring patient safety including tracking labs and compiling data for analysis or presentations. Key Responsibilities : The candidate will be expected to work with their mentor to participate in safety review of clinical trial subjects. The candidate will attend and participate in the CTSS review meetings for the trials as assigned. Following guidance from their mentor, the candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team on small tasks, including collating safety data from various clinical trial databases. The candidate must be proactive in engaging the team for support and seeking guidance when needed. The candidate will be required to regularly present their progress in formal and informal settings to colleagues. The candidate will interface with colleagues in other departments, as dictated by the project. Depending on the project, deliverables could include a curated dataset or the generation and evaluation of a particular experimental hypothesis backed by data and analyses generated by the candidate. Qualifications : Bachelor's or Ph.D. (or in progress) in life sciences (biology, biochemistry) or healthcare-related fields. Proven technical proficiency and demonstrated skill in planning and interpreting analytical work. Effective communicator (written and verbal), especially within area(s) of expertise. Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook). Proficiency in data analysis using Excel. Experience with visualization of scientific data sets using Excel or Prism a plus. Exposure to basic statistical methods. Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States. Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2025. Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from May - August 2025.
