Job Summary
The Sr. Manager, Area Engineering will be responsible for managing the pipeline, facility assets, and personnel of the assigned service area. Specific duties include long term strategic planning and implementation of work and projects involving the existing distribution and transmission systems with a focus on company safety policies and procedures, their facilities and the effect of new business load additions, physical conditions, pressure, and/or roadway construction activity on the systems; directing and developing the assigned Engineering personnel in their work; managing the capital budget allocated resources; establishing and ensuring compliance involving the physical plant records and the communication of maps and records updates to internal and external customers; assigning incoming work to the team and overseeing the team member’s design and estimation of costs for distribution system additions and modifications; achieving projects deadlines and Company goals; working with other functions to strategically plan for short- and long-term growth and maintenance needs in the distribution system; maintaining communications and coordinate activities with representatives of state (Pennsylvania and Maryland) utility commissions, municipalities, engineering consultants, regulators and/or contractors; and work on special assignments as requested.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the design, permitting and approval of the Replacement & Betterment (R&B) replacement required target miles in each area in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Manage the R&B and Removal & Salvage (R&S) work to meet the total budget.
- Manage R&B and R&S projects to meet design deadlines and start a backlog of designed work ready for construction. Track project status forecast costs and proactively manage financial commitments.
- Develop staff of engineers and technicians.
- Direct engineering staff on the performance of the distribution systems. Review regulator station set points and capacities, monitor system performance and assist system planning in analysis of load growth and impact on system capacity.
- Provide DIMP Risk review and SME feedback on DIMP and TIMP and support other special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient problem solving, project management and decision-making skills.
- Proficient drawing and drafting skills, particularly as relates to Natural Gas construction.
- Ability to motivate and develop a team of employees and influence across departments.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong computer skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all applicable Federal (DOT), State (PUC), local codes and regulations.
- Demonstrated safety leadership skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Advanced degree highly desired but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems and a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
- PA Professional Engineer License.
