Bioinformatician I-III
Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason, Seattle, Washington, us, 98127
Overview
Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) is an internationally recognized medical research institute and a leader in understanding and resolving immune-mediated diseases. We are committed to predicting, preventing, reversing, and curing diseases of the immune system such as type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, allergy, and asthma. Our diverse team of researchers works together to accelerate discoveries through laboratory breakthroughs that translate into clinical therapies. We currently are recruiting for an outstanding data scientist to join our bioinformatics group. This group at BRI collaborates closely with bench scientists and clinical researchers to understand how the immune system functions in health and disease. We strive to be involved throughout the research process, from project planning and experimental design, through data collection and quality assessment, to analysis and interpretation. By collaborating with researchers, we combine our knowledge bases, generate creative solutions, and leverage institutional knowledge to ensure best practices. Responsibilities
As a member of our team, you will develop creative approaches at the intersection of data collection, integration, and analysis. You’ll work with a range of genomic, cellular, and clinical data types, adding statistical rigor to the experimental process. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about using data science and bioinformatic approaches to further our vision of a healthy immune system for every individual. Qualifications
Requirements include strong analytical skills, proficiency in a modern programming language used in data science (e.g. R, Python, SAS, Matlab, Scala, Java, C++), excellent communication and time management skills and the ability to work in both a collaborative environment and independently. Experience in the biological sciences and bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput “-omics” data is preferred but not required. Bioinformatician I:
Executes project tasks as part of a broader team. Requires a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or other life science with a strong understanding of the principles of bioinformatics, and 0-3 years related experience. Master’s degree preferred. Bioinformatician II:
Able to independently manage multiple projects and communications with stakeholders. Requires a master’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or other life science with a strong understanding of the principles of bioinformatics and 3 to 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education experience. PhD preferred. Bioinformatician III:
Able to independently manage multiple projects and communications with stakeholders, mentor junior bioinformaticians, helps set and achieve broad group goals and priorities aligned with BRI’s mission. Requires a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or other life science with a strong understanding of the principles of bioinformatics, proven ability to develop new methodology when needed, and 5 or more years related experience or equivalent combination of related education. Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) has a bold mission: To predict, prevent, reverse and cure immune system diseases, from autoimmune disease to cancer to COVID-19. We examine the immune system in both health and disease to understand how disorders start and how to rebalance the immune system back to health. Equipped with innovative tools and robust biorepositories, our team chips away at the biggest mysteries behind these conditions to work toward our vision of a healthy immune system for everyone. At BRI, each role is valued and an important contributor to our vision and mission. BRI is committed to a safe, caring and diverse workplace; as well as to taking action to further our commitments to foster inclusion, equity and belonging so employees feel comfortable bringing their full selves to work.
