Duties and Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities The Department of Health Sciences & Human Performance in the College of Health Professions and Science at Montana State University Billings seeks a qualified candidate to teach undergraduate coursework in the RN to BSN Completion program. The candidate may also be requested to teach courses in the Healthcare Administration and Health & Wellness programs of study in times of low RN to BSN student census. Candidates must hold at minimum a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, but a terminal degree (Ph.D. or DNP) in nursing is preferred. Faculty must also hold a current and unencumbered RN or APRN license; be academically prepared for the areas in which they teach; and have experience in and maintain clinical expertise in the relevant clinical area in which they teach. Participation in online curriculum development and assessment and RN to BSN program accreditation are essential. Prior online teaching experience is preferred. The ability to effectively engage and deliver high-quality and outcome-focused instruction to students with a variety of lived experiences, diverse backgrounds and learning needs is essential. Qualified candidates will demonstrate an ability to meet expectations of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, and to be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with faculty colleagues, professional staff, and students. Teaching The RN to BSN program provides students with knowledge, skills, and attitudes that build upon their associate degree coursework, emphasizing further development in leadership and management, informatics, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, legal and ethical aspects of care, cultural competence, clinical judgment, and the promotion of health in individuals, families, and communities. Coursework focuses on real-world application of learning and emphasizes the role of the nurse as a leader, advocate, and change agent in dynamic healthcare systems. Courses are offered entirely online, so the ideal candidate will demonstrate skill in online learning platforms and educational technology, and commitment to developing and teaching courses that provide engaging, accessible, student-centered, and transformative learning opportunities for students in a well-organized and flexible learning environment that supports the mission of MSU Billings. Typical load = 21 credit hours/AY; and possible summer session with additional credit hours and additional compensation. Scholarship Qualified candidates are expected to meet expectations and demonstrate commitment to professional activity in the areas of publication, research (applied and/or basic to include commitment to and work toward state and national accreditation of department programs), consulting, creative endeavor; participation in professional associations, conferences, meetings and workshops; production of grants including grant writing and application, and evidence of subject matter mastery and awareness of current developments in the field. Service Qualified candidates must meet expectations of service with activities such as service on department and university committees, contributing to program accreditation efforts, and other service as appropriate to the program, department, university, community, and profession. A key service expectation of the RN to BSN faculty candidate is the contribution to students' academic and career success through the provision of holistic advising support. Criminal Background Investigation is required prior to Offer of Employment. (In accordance with University policy, finalists for this position will be subject to criminal background investigations.)
