Compliance Specialist

Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the incumbent will direct Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and applicable State licensing and compliance activities necessary to operate and maintain hydroelectric power generation assets.These duties include the preparation of compliance documentation and FERC license amendment applications, conducting stakeholder discussions, and providing timely responses and report submissions to the FERC and other Federal or State agencies.

More specifically, the Compliance Specialist will have the following responsibilities: Developing and submitting letters and reports required for FERC license and State permit requirements and ensuring timely submission to meet required deadlines Overseeing the implementation of and compliance with FERC, State and corporate dam safety regulations, programs, initiatives and inspection programs, including the development of and submission of required reports. Coordinate FERC, State, and internal dam inspections. Manage Dam Safety EAPs (Emergency Action Plans) Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory licenses, permits, and codes of operation and conduct Prepare, track, and ensure timely submission of required report to applicable regulatory agencies Assessing the risk/impact of company activities and projects and advising project team of environmental issues, flows, and water level fluctuations/modifications Develop strategies and action plans that comply with company HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environmental) policies and procedures Develop, implement, and monitor Brookfield's recreational programs, policies, and procedures to comply with applicable local, state and federal regulations and company requirements Assist in completion of environmental and engineering studies, hydraulic analysis, operations modeling, upgrade and expansion studies, and economic evaluations; Initiating and participating in meetings and discussions with regulators. Consulting with required agencies regarding water management plans and other regulatory issues Work with the Licensing Manager, supporting the hydro re-licensing efforts and participate in hydro re-licensing settlement negotiations Interpreting, analyzing, and compiling measurements/monitoring/sampling of fish and other wildlife, stream flow gaging, water levels, etc. for FERC license and State permit compliance Required Skills: Thorough knowledge of and experience with state/local and FERC-related licensing and compliance requirements and documentation; Strong time management skills with the ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects; Ability to proactively establish and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization and with external vendors and agencies; Strong attention to detail and follow-through and have the ability to keep data and documents organized and error free; Superior critical thinking and analytical skills; Highly motivated and have the ability to work independently and cooperatively with others; Excellent verbal and written communications, team-oriented work practices, and strong statistical and technical problem-solving skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Required Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline; 5+ Years preferred
