The Facilities Maintenance and Sanitation Manager is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall maintenance of the beverage production facility. The manager will lead a team in the cleaning and upkeep of production areas, storage facilities, and equipment, while also managing preventative maintenance programs for the building and facility systems.

Description

The Key Responsibilities for the Facilties Maintenance and Sanitation Manager are:

  1. Maintenance Planning and Execution

    • Oversee the maintenance of all plant facilities, including production areas, storage rooms, office spaces, restrooms, and common areas.
    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for facility systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration) to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve facility-related issues promptly to avoid production delays (e.g., HVAC failure, plumbing issues, electrical outages).
    • Ensure the maintenance of key equipment supporting plant operations (e.g., pumps, boilers, water filtration systems, forklifts, and other facility machinery).
    • Oversee the periodic inspection and calibration of equipment, ensuring that all machines are operational and compliant with safety standards.
  2. Facility Inspections and Audits

    • Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify any potential safety or compliance issues (e.g., fire safety, water systems, electrical hazards).
    • Coordinate with local authorities for compliance audits and ensure any issues are addressed promptly.
  3. Vendor Management

    • Manage relationships with external contractors and vendors for building maintenance, repair work, and facility upgrades.
    • Coordinate vendor work and ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and company policies.
  4. Sanitation Program Development
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive sanitation program that ensures all production, storage, and handling areas meet strict hygiene standards required for beverage production.
  • Establish cleaning schedules for all production lines, bottling equipment, and warehouse spaces, ensuring compliance with food safety standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP).
  • Supervise the execution of cleaning protocols, ensuring all surfaces, equipment, and areas are cleaned and sanitized per industry standards.
  • Sanitation Compliance and Training
    • Ensure all sanitation activities comply with food safety laws and regulations (e.g., FDA, FSMA) and the company's internal hygiene policies.
    • Train sanitation personnel on proper cleaning techniques, use of chemicals, safety protocols, and best practices for maintaining a contamination-free environment.
    • Conduct regular sanitation audits and inspections to assess adherence to cleanliness standards and food safety regulations.
  1. Chemical Management

    • Oversee the proper storage, handling, and disposal of sanitation chemicals and cleaning agents.
    • Ensure the correct use of chemicals in compliance with safety regulations and ensure safety data sheets (SDS) are available for all cleaning products.
  2. Waste Management

    • Monitor and manage waste disposal systems, including the segregation of recyclable, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste.
    • Ensure that waste removal complies with environmental regulations and company policies.




    • Lead, supervise, and train a team of facilities maintenance technicians and sanitation staff.
    • Create and manage work schedules, monitor performance, and provide guidance on complex issues related to maintenance and sanitation.
    • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss issues, improvements, and provide updates on operational objectives.
  1. Performance Monitoring & Reporting

    • Monitor and track the performance of maintenance and sanitation activities, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.
    • Develop reports on maintenance activities, sanitation audits, and compliance checks to share with upper management.
  2. Budget Management

    • Manage the budget for facility maintenance, sanitation supplies, and equipment repairs/replacements.
    • Ensure cost control while maintaining high operational standards for maintenance and sanitation tasks.

Profile

A Successful facilities maintenance and sanitation manager candidate for a beverage manufacturer in San Diego will have:

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental Health, or a related field preferred.
    • Relevant certifications in maintenance management, sanitation, or food safety (e.g., HACCP, OSHA) are a plus.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, sanitation, or a related field within a manufacturing or beverage production environment.
    • Proven experience managing a team, creating maintenance schedules, and overseeing sanitation operations in a production setting.
  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP, FDA, USDA).
    • Experience with building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems.
    • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a facilities or maintenance environment.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate teams.
    • Familiarity with safety protocols, waste management, and regulatory compliance in manufacturing settings.
    • Knowledge of sanitation chemicals and cleaning techniques, particularly in a food and beverage manufacturing setting.
