Overview
HVAC mechanics, also known as HVAC technicians, are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. HVAC mechanics need a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and customer service skills. Many technicians complete a technical program and obtain certifications to enhance their knowledge and job prospects.
Requirements
Installs, services, modifies, rebuilds, and repair air- conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Equipment in an industrial or commercial establishment.
Accordance with applicable building codes and safety regulations.
Performs periodic inspection to locate and determine cause of equipment malfunctions
Conducts maintenance program to prevent failure of such equipment as centrifugal compressors, electrical controls, evaporative condensers, pumps, fans, and heating equipment.
Changes air-conditioning system with refrigerant, checks, and test for leaks, set and adjust, control and regulates
Fabricates, assembles, install ductwork, and overhauls equipment
May service, modify, and maintain centralized HVAC computer systems and make program corrections
May be required to install and maintain high- technology
Clean room environment
Requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience
Education & Qualifications
EPA Certification, electrical, and mechanically inclined.
Wide knowledge in AC and chill water systems
Strong communication and problem solving skills, self starter, capable of working in a team
Sense of urgency
10 years minimum experience
Background in aerospace and production equipment
