A Brief Summary of This PositionThe Fabricator/Back-Up Laser Operator is an individual contributor who sets up and operates production machines. This role understands gauging and checks fixtures and parts by the machines involved in this classification. The Fabricator/Back-Up Laser Operator ensures alignment to the blueprint and to the frequency rate of the work instruction. This position operates the Trumpf Laser as a back-up to a primary operator. This position loads and unloads material, ensuring piece/part integrity while operating equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential FunctionsAccurately uses measuring tape, thread gauges, micrometers, protractors, square combination and dial calipersSet up and operates production machines in the fabrication department.Ensure maintenance during PM of machineCheck fixtures and parts and ensures alignment to the blueprint and to the frequency rate of the work instruction.Operate and maintain the Trumpf equipmentReview daily production hot sheets to determine parts and materials neededLoading additional materials into the laser as neededAbility to make adjustments to the laser and other fabrication machines to ensure accuracy of partsKnowledge and ability for troubleshooting of the laser and other fabrication department machinesMaterial Handling of raw and finished products at times using industrial equipment (i.e., forklift)Inspect and replace nozzles as necessary on the laser machineRecover system from “crashes” resulting from part tip-ups or bad materialCleaning of the laser and slats on a frequent basisCoordination and communication with various departments around materials needed and finished product movementDe-nest parts, inspect, sort and place parts in appropriate tubsPrint and distribute nest reports to appropriate personnelRemove and properly dispose of scrapThe ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needsA working knowledge of using e-mailOther duties as assigned

Job Training Skill DevelopmentMust pass Valmont forklift certification for all forklifts used in the position.
Decision MakingThe decisions the person in this position makes affects inventory accuracy and availability of material for the production and shipping areas.
The incumbent is responsible for prioritizing the workload to avoid lost time to all departments.
Utilizes product mix in location assuring proper rotation of stored materials.
Reviews space allocations and material flow to maximize utilization of space available.
Able to apply creativity to solve the problems encountered within the scope of their activity.
Examples would be to receive material, issue material or resolve inventory discrepancies and implement the appropriate action to correct them.
Physical EffortOperates equipment the majority of time.
Lifts materials up to 50 pounds. Pushes and pulls materials <50 lbs approximately 10 to 15% of the time.
Standing, stooping, bending, sitting and squatting 100% of the shift.
