GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
A research assistant position is available at the Massachusetts General Hospital's Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, located in Charlestown, MA. The Martinos Center is renowned for its cutting-edge research in medical imaging and technology development. The candidate will support the creation of new imaging devices, with a primary focus on the mechanical fabrication of components in the Martinos Center Makerspace.The primary research focus will be on improving the sensitivity, speed, and portability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), allowing it to be used for new clinical applications.The role will provide opportunities to interact with and learn from world leaders in technology development for MRI and other imaging and neuromodulation modalities. There will also be opportunities to help plan and run hardware-oriented "Hackathon" events that bring together researchers from around the world for intensive in-person collaboration toward a research goal.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CAD modeling of mechanical parts and assemblies.
*
Rapid prototyping of mechanical parts via 3D printing and machining.
*
Rapid prototyping of imaging samples.
*
Assist in construction of electronic components including constructing of enclosures, routing circuit boards, and soldering components.
*
Potential for testing of simple circuits
*
Potential for mechanical, thermal, electromagnetic simulations.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1-2 years lab experience preferred (not required)

Experience with the following skills are advantageous (not required): experience in machine shop, CAD, MATLAB/Python. Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree required.
Field of Study
Additional Specialized Training: Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics or related science field.
EXPERIENCE:
New graduates with some lab experience (via course work, internships, etc.) or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Research Technician I position outlined above.
Those with a minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.
