The Opportunity
As a Solution Architect - Data you are proficient in enterprise, application, and information data architecture design, and are experienced working in an Agile development environment as well as understanding SDLC. You’ll use your skills to lead and contribute to the design, development, and review of architectural deliverables. You’ll also contribute to the development and maintenance of data applications towards Analytical and Operational use cases spanning data, software, and infrastructure architecture, ensuring that the data application architecture aligns with business domain architecture and enterprise data architecture standards. You’re an excellent communicator with the confidence to present to executive level audiences and proficient in driving conversations with senior technologists within cross-functional teams.

The Data Services and Engineering team in the Enterprise IT Product and Operations Technology organization is comprised of highly skilled, collaborative problem solvers who are motivated to create innovative solutions that exceed the changing needs of our customers and move MassMutual forward. As a Solution Architect Data, you’ll have an opportunity to partner with other experienced technology resources to transform the existing data technology stack to support current and new business processes adopting a cloud-first approach.
The Impact:
Design and establish a sound Architecture towards building a data ecosystem for persisting, processing, consuming, and analyzing data.
Define and establish a Data Integration Strategy in collaboration with other Solution and Enterprise architects which will enable systems integrations moving from point-to-point to passthrough model.
Maintain end-to-end vision of data flow for applications under his/her purview.
Design lead and implementation oversight for data integration solutions supporting batch/ETL, real-time streaming, and API-led integrations.
Provide strategic thinking and solutions. Proactively assess the current state of the technology and identify gaps and overlaps. Capture future state technology vision in actionable, context-specific roadmaps.
Lead the adoption of cloud data technologies while supporting a transition path from matured to emerging technology stack with minimal disruption to critical data applications.
Develop and enforce policies around data quality, data security, data retention, data stewardship, and proactively identify and support project impacts.
Serve as an expert level technical resource, may act as a project lead. He/she won’t have direct reports but will influence and direct activities of teams across multiple initiatives.
Work in a team-based environment including a global workforce, vendors, and third-party contractors.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical field of study.
8+ years applications design & development experience, with substantial focus in enterprise, application, and information data architecture design.
3+ years of experience in all facets of data architecture for analytics and operational reporting solutions enablement - data warehouse, data lake, reference data, master data management, enterprise-grade BI platforms, and business analytics solutions.
3+ years of experience in designing data integration solutions including data development, database design, ETL and orchestration, data syndication, and API-led data access.
1+ year of backend development experience using Node.js, Express, MongoDB, GraphQL, RESTful APIs, etc.
2+ years of experience with cloud data technologies (preferably AWS) such as S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR, Kinesis, Redshift, Redis, Athena, and DevOps tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes.
1+ year of Data Architect experience within Life Insurance or Financial Services domain.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong domain experience in Financial Services or Life Insurance industry.
Strong knowledge of data modeling and ETL development including patterns and best practices.
Experience with event streaming and web service protocols like SOAP, REST, JSON, or Kafka.
Experience in working with and enabling integrations with vendor/SaaS platforms.
Strong experience in defining and using data quality management, data security frameworks, metadata management, and data governance processes.
Experience with Vertica or other columnar databases, and understanding of unified data analytics platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, etc.
Experience in AWS cloud application design, development, and deployment and migrating applications and workloads to cloud environments.
Familiarity with insurance industry data standards like ACORD.
Strong consultative skills at a cross-functional level, and able to work independently.
Excellent mentoring skills and the desire to contribute to efforts beyond the scope of day-to-day project work.
