Very prestigious national law firm seeks a Litigation Assistant to join their dynamic team.
The Litigation Assistant will be primarily responsible for assisting attorneys with all aspects of litigation including discovery, pleadings, court filings, and trial preparation in State and Federal Courts. In addition, you will maintain Compulaw and Outlook calendars, schedule appointments, answer phones, prepare and follow up on matters relating to document preparation and timekeeping/billing, as well as other Legal Assistant duties.
This position has a high degree of interaction with partners, associates, staff, and clients requiring strong judgment and professional polish as well as the following:
Responsibilities:
Provide support by drafting correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents (i.e., pleadings, briefs, closing documents, discovery shells), submitting same for review, revising, redlining, comparing, proofreading, assembling, photocopying, and distributing final material as necessary. Prepare files and/or binders for hearings, depositions, meetings, and trials. Manage multiple attorney calendars by working with our litigation calendaring system Compulaw, Docketing Department, as well as using Outlook calendars to schedule appointments and meetings. Assist in all aspects of litigation, including Federal, Bankruptcy, and State court filings and e-filings. Assist with client engagement and retention, including preparation of engagement letters, conflict checks, conflict waivers, and submitting information to open matters. Enter time for timekeepers, working closely with assigned timekeeper(s) to prepare billings for submission to the accounting department and forward monthly invoices to clients. Submit attorney expenses. Provide overflow assistance as requested from different offices. High level of confidentiality as to Firm and client business matters. Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of mid- or large-sized law firm experience, supporting at least three attorneys. Bachelor’s degree (preferred) and/or five (5) years of previous litigation experience. Advanced skill using MS Word, version 2016, to include using styles, tracking changes, document comparison, generating TOC’s and TOA’s, and Outlook; basic proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with NetDocs, CompuLaw, Best Authority and Adobe Acrobat Pro/DC preferred. Exceptional grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills. Fundamental knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and procedures. Practical knowledge of client billing. Organized, reliable, and attentive to detail. High level of customer service to clients, partners, associates, and staff. Work successfully in a team environment. Proficient in e-filing using NYSCEF and ECF/PACER. Knowledge of basic e-discovery principles is preferred. Generally familiar with a wide range of legal matters including labor and employment. Benefits:
