JOB SUMMARY
The Procurement Manager leads the organization's procurement function, reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations with a focus on developing robust supplier relationships both domestically and internationally, leading site sourcing initiatives, implementing comprehensive supplier scorecards, managing and improving supplier on-time delivery metrics, and spearheading new product launches with a keen eye on purchased parts optimization. This role is pivotal and requires keen focus, experience, and tenacity in strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement operations to ensure optimal quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery of materials. The manager owns supplier results and mentors and develops a team of procurement professionals while implementing robust procurement strategies. Candidates with experience in the heavy machining or manufacturing industry are strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Procurement
Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies tailored to organizational needs, including make-buy analyses, and domestic/global sourcing initiatives. Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and delivery goals. Negotiate contracts to secure optimal terms, pricing, and payment conditions. Supplier Management
Cultivate, maintain, and improve relationships with key suppliers. Evaluate supplier performance metrics (KPIs) and proactively drive corrective actions. Rationalize supplier bases to optimize costs and ensure quality. Collaboration Across Teams
Partner with Planning, Production, Engineering, and Quality to address supplier issues and improve product development processes. Work closely with other supply chain teams across SFE to deliver company results. Support new product launches and design-for-manufacturing initiatives. Team Leadership
Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of procurement professionals. Oversee training, recruitment, and performance management to build a high-performing team. Participate in day-to-day procurement activities as needed to maintain currency and augment team productivity. Process Optimization
Establish and adjust purchasing policies within ERP systems for efficiency. Regularly review and act upon supply chain KPIs, including lead times, on-time delivery, cost savings, and inventory turnover. Lead critical shortages process and associated activities to improve production output. Lead procurement value stream mapping and process improvement projects. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field. Minimum 10 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing setting, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity with a proven record of driving positive results. Demonstrated experience in strategic sourcing, supplier improvement, and global supply chains. Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Intuitive, SyteLine) and procurement project management. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Must have advanced skills in Excel including working knowledge of pivot tables and data mining. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex supply chain issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions. Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Exceptional team leadership skills to inspire, drive ownership and create accountability. Occasional travel domestically and internationally may be required. Ability to adapt to changing business environments and work under pressure. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the metals manufacturing or heavy machining industry. License/certification in ASCM: CPIM or CSCP. Background in new product development, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), or related disciplines. Expertise in inventory management and process optimization.
