The Director of Operations is responsible for manufacturing operations and logistics supporting supply chain management, planning, safety, Lean implementation and quality across all Lummus locations, overseeing the management of (2) locations, and the creation of a culture of continuous improvement by driving lean solutions and cost reduction initiatives, implementing manufacturing best practices, and leading innovation. The position is a member of the senior leadership team which sets the strategic direction of the business. Objectives

Execute the business plan for Lummus operations, including manufacturing, logistics, physical plant management and supporting quality, lean implementation and safety. Lead and coordinate the required internal resources to develop and execute the near and long-term strategy to maximize manufacturing outcomes and proactively plan for changing conditions. This role has overall responsibility for Lummus manufacturing – there are currently 2 manufacturing plants Savannah, Georgia and Lubbock, Texas. This position is in Savannah, Georgia. Essential Functions

Lead and manage day-to-day manufacturing operations utilizing department lead positions with an emphasis on using quantitative metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) that are reported on a weekly and monthly basis. Set and monitor the plants’ daily, weekly, and monthly operational targets and act on variances. Daily production meetings with plant leads. Establish weekly production plans with daily reviews. Meet daily with materials readiness to review materials required for production. Review and approve all labor entries and variances. Coordinate all “Cube Meetings” for effective plant communication. Weekly revenue review to ensure monthly plans are achieved. Prepare reports for weekly review with Senior management. Execute project deliverables and schedules and manage the cost center (OPEX) budget and capital expenditures for the operations organization. Spare parts fulfillment. Establish regular weekly meetings with spare parts Supervisor, International and Domestic sales staff to review backlog, priority list, delivery dates and progress reports. Monitor the spare parts production daily with manufacturing staff. Review daily shipments with the logistics team. Review material requirements for spare parts manufacture and coordinate deliveries with procurement and production planning. Partner with supply chain management and engineering teams to establish and measure progress against annual purchase price savings targets. Establish policies for material usage, capacity planning, production methods and employee relations to enhance operational efficiency. Partner with Quality/Continuous Improvement in the implementation of quality programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Partner and collaborate with engineering to improve overall efficiency in Lummus manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on value engineering to create cost savings and operational efficiencies. Lead, develop, and mentor operations and Logistics staff, with a focus on functional and cross-functional teamwork, planning, follow-up, and effective communication. Set talent strategy for staffing, including succession planning for critical roles, in partnership with HR and executive team. Ensure compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Distribution Practices, OSHA, ISO, and other areas of mandatory regulatory oversight. Execute all Domestic and International shipping activities including but not limited to: Sourcing and negotiating shipping rates. Purchasing containers for international shipments. Making all major domestic shipping arrangements. Responsible for securing both international air and sea shipments and all documentation. Lead shipping, receiving and packing/crating teams daily. Bachelor’s degree in business management, Engineering, or relevant field. Minimum of 10+ years in manufacturing, including 5+ years of experience in a leadership role managing teams. Hands-on experience determining capacity and scaling up to manage different types of manufacturing environments based on product and/or customer demand (e.g., high volume/low mix vs. low volume/high mix, building to inventory vs. building to order). Strong entrepreneurial and business acumen, with excellent attention to detail, organization and planning skills, and action orientation. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate company growth goals and engage team in the transformation. Ability to initiate and lead change management. Must be able to influence others in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Willingness to travel as needed both domestically and internationally.
