The Opportunity The College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites nominations and applications for a full-time, 12-month position of tenured professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry with an anticipated start date in fall 2025. The chair is the unit head, provides leadership for the department, and is essential to the decision-making and administrative functions within the unit, including academic programs, budget, hiring, evaluations, facilities, etc. The UCF Department of Chemistry is a growing, innovative population of faculty and students carrying out research in all traditional chemistry disciplines, as well as forensic chemistry and chemistry education research. The department has productive academic programs including the chemistry Ph.D., chemistry M.S., as well as ACS-approved B.S. programs in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic chemistry, forensic biochemistry, a B.A. program in chemistry, as well as FEPAC-accredited forensic science programs. The department consists of 30 full-time faculty, about 800 undergraduate majors, and approximately 100 graduate students. It is a collegial department with broad representation that values collaborations and mentorship across subdisciplines. Department faculty collaborate with the National Center of Forensic Science, the Nanoscience and Technology Center, the College of Optics and Photonics, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the College of Community Innovation and Education, thus preparing our students for complex problem solving in an interdisciplinary world. Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required. In order to obtain tenure, the successful applicant must have a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenured professor at UCF by time of hire. Applicants must also have a demonstrated record of administrative leadership in a university or similar setting. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated experience in handling faculty matters, supervising staff, and have strong communication skills.
