Job Description Reporting to the Associate Director of Environmental Management, the Program Manager, Environmental Management is primarily based on the Boston University Medical Campus and responsible for environmental programs at the medical campus including Boston Medical Center (BMC). The position is responsible for the safe and compliant management of radioactive, universal, and hazardous waste, conducting compliance audits of environmental programs, improving environmental management systems through the assessment of work practices and compliance to enhance program efficiencies and to identify compliance gaps. The position works closely with the Associate Director and Senior Specialist to ensure safety and environmental compliance at BU and BMC. https://www.bu.edu/hr/learningbu/tuition-remission/ Job Responsibilities Manage the collection, storage, accumulation, and disposal of radioactive, hazardous, biological, universal, and electronic wastes. Manage hazardous waste contract personnel. Manage the Integrated Contingency Plans, Sewer Use Discharge Permits, NPDES permits, Air Plan Approvals, Title V Operating Permit, and other air emissions and wastewater equipment permitting programs. Maintain organized and compliant environmental records. Maintain waste facilities and associated equipment in an organized, efficient and compliant condition. Monitor equipment and supplies inventory. Identify and implement cost reduction measures. Assist in the coordination with laboratory decontamination and decommissioning projects. Assess environmental compliance through inspections and audits. Oversee industrial wastewater operations. Coordinate with university and hospital staff and their contractors to scope and schedule environmental projects. Required Skills B.A./B.S. in a related field. 5+ years of environmental management experience. Experience in chemical hazardous waste profiling and disposal. Familiarity with facilities systems: generators, wastewater systems. Experience in environmental management systems. RCRA/DOT certification. OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour Certification or ability to obtain. 2-I Wastewater Operator License or ability to obtain. Valid driver’s license. Basic computer skills (business systems, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficient communicator. Successful completion of a pre-placement physical. Preferred Experience Environmental management experience in the academic or healthcare industry. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or other EHS professional certification. Experience in maintaining and servicing wastewater systems. Experience in permitting air emissions and wastewater equipment. Experience in compliance inspections with external environmental regulators.
