The Vice President for Academics (VPAA) for the College of Undergraduate Studies (CUGS) is the senior leader for all “traditional” academic programs at the university. In close collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), the VPAA-CUGS coordinates the planning, budgeting, organizational structuring, staffing, and evaluation of all areas supervised. The VPAA-CUGS works effectively with other academic Vice Presidents on the Academic Leadership Team to provide effective service for the flourishing of faculty and students in all learning spaces.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
Understand, embrace, and promote the mission, values, and core commitments of Southern Nazarene University.
Foster a culture of innovation and thriving for faculty and academic staff within all learning spaces.
Promote faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Evaluate faculty performance, promote faculty enrichment, and provide guidance and accountability for all facets of faculty excellence.
Facilitate the hiring of high-quality, well-qualified, and mission-oriented faculty.
Serve as an engine of innovation for new programs, program expansion, and enrollment growth.
Collaborate with campus areas such as the Center for Student Success, Student Life, and Athletics.
Support and maintain SNU policies and procedures.
Manage teaching workloads per Faculty Handbook and university expectations.
Provide essential data and reports needed for assessing faculty and academic effectiveness.
Develop short- and long-range strategic initiatives to ensure and advance the priorities and mission of the university.
Provide administrative management of staffing and facilities needs, monthly budget reports, and annual fiscal planning.
Maintain institutional and programmatic fidelity to external accrediting and regulatory agencies.
Maintain positive interpersonal relationships that contribute to a healthy working environment.
Work collaboratively and independently to meet deadlines.
Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of technology.

Required Qualifications:
Southern Nazarene University is an expression of the Church of the Nazarene. Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of inclusion, belonging, and equity and models cultural responsiveness.
Demonstrates a vibrant Christian faith rooted in the Wesleyan Holiness movement, expressed in his or her character, personal life and adherence to SNU’s faith and life covenant, church involvement, and in scholarly and professional activity.
Possesses strong insight and experience in integrating faith, life, and learning, not only in his or her own academic field but also in relation to the full spectrum of humanities, arts, and sciences.
Understands and respects learners at all stages of their development and applies learning theory and taxonomies of learning to create robust learning spaces.
Creates and sustains, in collaboration with others, an active academic focus on an academic reputation through a commitment to excellence
Demonstrates under pressure an even-keeled posture while relating to others with gentle confidence and grace-filled empathy.
Demonstrates an ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of the organization, including internal and external constituencies.
Experience and skills with various computer software applications, including Excel, Google Suites, and CRMs (Customer Relationship Management).
Has an earned doctorate and rank of at least Associate Professor.
Has a minimum of six years of full-time teaching experience in a “traditional” student environment at a 4-year university.
Has at least three years of experience with a successful record of leadership within a 4-year university at the level of Chair, Director, Associate VP, or similar position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with multiple modalities of content delivery and knowledge of effective pedagogical practices associated with each.
Experience with recruitment strategies to promote a diverse faculty community and student body.
Experience with assessment activities, regular program review, and accreditation.
A demonstrated personal leadership growth mindset and commitment to leadership development within faculty ranks.
A record of fostering collaboration across multiple units within a university.
