Job Title: Senior Director, Medical Affairs
Location: HYBRID
(Waltham, MA or Menlo Park, CA)
OR REMOTE Role Overview: Oruka is looking for Senior Director, Medical Affairs to lead the development of medical strategy, planning, and execution of medical affairs activities within dermatology and rheumatology therapeutic areas. The ideal candidate will have an advanced scientific degree and extensive experience within medical affairs leadership and field-based teams. This individual will play a key role in both external scientific engagement and internal leadership, overseeing a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) while contributing to the success of clinical trials of Oruka’s rich pipeline. Summary: Leads medical strategy and medical affairs activities aiming to engage scientific community with high quality communication and support clinical trials with proficient MSL team. Key Responsibilities: Develops and leads medical affairs strategy and tactics, including scientific exchange and publications, annual medical planning, field communications, and advisory boards. Develops and cultivates long-term strategic partnerships with clinical investigators, key opinion leaders, societies, collaborative groups, advocacy groups, and other healthcare collaborators. Keeps abreast of scientific information and technology through conferences and medical literature and acts as a specific therapeutic area resource. Gathers feedback, data, or information during routine activities that can help the company better comprehend medical or scientific needs, priorities, or concerns of scientific community and patients. Supports the design and conduct of clinical trials. Leads, mentors, and manages a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), providing strategic and professional development direction. Qualifications: Advanced degree in life sciences (PharmD, PhD, MD/DO, or equivalent) is required. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Medical Director leading strategic plans and initiatives in Medical affairs. Field-based medical and team management experience preferred. Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment. Strong ability to critically analyze, summarize and communicate scientific data. Good understanding of drug development, including clinical trial methodology, data analysis and interpretation, regulatory requirements governing clinical trials. Strong interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining positive and successful stakeholder relationships. Experience in Dermatology, Rheumatology, and other immune conditions preferred. Compensation: An appropriate financial package will be developed for the successful candidate to include a competitive base salary and equity, with a performance-related bonus opportunity. The anticipated salary range for candidates is $240,000-270,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Oruka is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
