Job Description
Inova Health System has an exciting opportunity for either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work in our Pre-Procedural Evaluation Clinic. The clinic is a hybrid between a primary care clinic and an emergency department. Each patient is new and you have to appropriately evaluate them within a short period of time to ensure they are optimized for their upcoming procedure and anesthesia. All of our patients are pre-procedure patients who have an upcoming surgery or procedure requiring anesthesia at Inova. Providers independently evaluate and manage patients, but there is an attending anesthesiologist available for consults and questions on site every day in clinic. Due to the nature of the work, there is extensive coordination of care and communication with a wide range of providers and departments across Inova. Providers are responsible for the continued care of patients until the day of their procedure

Preoperative Medicine Advanced Practice Provider Job Responsibilities: Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area. Provides direct clinical care to patients. Prescribes/orders medications, therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges. Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families. Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and/or procedures performed for which the Licensed Advanced Practice Provider is responsible. Refers to other disciplines as appropriate. Consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise. Integrates research based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making. Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
Additional Requirements: Work schedule:
8 hour shifts: Monday thru Friday Education : Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program with minimum of 2 years' experience Board Certified Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Maintains necessary CME requirements. Licensed or eligible for licensing as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia Active or eligible for DEA license BLS, ACLS for Critical Care
