Description
Under general supervision, performs skilled and technical work in operating an approved mobile medical unit, rescuing victims and administering appropriate emergency medical care to patients on-site and while in route to hospital. Employee must exercise tact, courtesy and firmness in dealing with sick or injured persons and with the general public. Employee is responsible for performing in accordance with established emergency medical procedures and techniques, but must exercise considerable independent judgment in assessing the condition of patients and applying short-term relief. Employee is exposed to the normal hazards of emergency rescue and extrication, including risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Position reports directly to an EMS Shift Supervisor. Examples of Duties
Responds to emergency calls as a paramedic; performs necessary rescue work and administers emergency medical care per ALS protocol. Responds to non-emergency calls, such as requests to transport patients from hospitals to their homes or from local medical facilities to a specialized medical center. Participates in a continuous training program to improve competence in medical clinical work and ambulance service and operation; maintains knowledge of new or modified operational protocols and procedures; studies street and road patterns and networks of the County in order that future runs may be made with minimum difficulty and delay. Maintains competency in trip report writing, computer skills and literacy; this includes Microsoft Windows operating system and software related to the Windows operating system, i.e. (Word, Excel, EHR)
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Inspects, tests, and inventories ambulances and their emergency equipment daily, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies; cleans and sanitizes ambulance and equipment daily; ensures that they are in proper and good working order; makes routine adjustments; records all of the above and reports other than minor defects for specialized attention Maintains cleanliness and performs minor maintenance of Emergency Medical facilities and mobile units as scheduled or needed. Provides assistance to members of volunteer emergency service organizations in County, as requested. Provides educational presentations related to EMS, and Emergency Disaster Preparedness as requested, and train / instruct new hire employees on ambulance and shift operations. Must have all run reports completed by end of shift. Performs other related work as required. Maintains required certifications
Typical Qualifications
Graduation from high school; Must possess a valid driver's license; ACLS certification; PALS certification; ITLS or PHTLS certification Supplemental Information
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment, monitor work site progress, and use measurement devices.
Criminal Records check, drug screen, and references will be required for the successful candidate;

Health We offer a high-deductible health plan with a $3000 deductible (Single). This program includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). Employee only coverage is completely funded by the County, PLUS the County contributes $1000 to the HSA annually.
Dental Our dental plan provides for preventive services, such as cleanings each year, at 100%. There is a $25 deductible for other services. Basic services pays at 80% and other major services at 50%. The County contributes $14.47 per month for employee coverage.
Voluntary Plans Employees may choose from a variety of plans arranged through Mark III Benefits. These include AFLAC Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity plans; Allstate Cancer; Texas Life Whole Life; and Superior Vision plans. In addition we offer Short-term and Long-term disability.
Life Insurance The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. An employee may choose to purchase additional voluntary term life insurance.
Retirement Pension is offered through the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Employees are required to contribute 6% of gross wages toward their account. The County also contributes at 7.58% (law enforcement 8.25%).
401(k) and 457 are supplemental retirement plans administered by Empower. For the 401(k) plan, employees contributing a minimum of 1% are eligible for the County contribution of 2.5% toward their account. Employees contributing at least 3% or greater are eligible for a County Contribution of 3%. Law Enforcement Officers receive a 5% County contribution. The 401(k) plan offers both pre-tax and Roth after-tax contributions. The 457 plan is tax-deferred with no minimum contribution requirements.
Longevity Pay The County offers longevity pay to employees with at least 5 years of continuous service.
