We seek a skilled and motivated Assistant Communications Director to join our team, help build public support for stronger whistleblower protections and laws and elevate our brand presence internally and externally. Job Description:

The Assistant Communications Director will work closely with the organization’s senior leadership to implement comprehensive communications strategies. You will be responsible for crafting high-quality written content, managing social media channels, organizing seminars and other educational events, working with congressional staff on whistleblower issues, and contributing to developing internal and external communications.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Content Creation & Writing: Write, edit, and proofread various forms of content, including press releases, blog posts, articles, social media updates, and speeches, ensuring alignment with brand voice and messaging. This will include writing content for our online activist network.
    • Social Media Management: Develop and execute social media strategies across multiple platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), ensuring consistent brand presence and audience engagement.
    • Leadership & Collaboration: Lead communication, educational, and advocacy initiatives.
    • Media Relations: Help develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts, draft media outreach materials, and track media coverage.
    • Advocacy Campaigns: Lead and/or support grassroots advocacy campaigns using the organization’s numerous online platforms and organizing tools, such as SALSA.
    • Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and report on the performance of communication campaigns and social media efforts, using data to inform strategy and improve future initiatives.
    • Event Support: Help coordinate internal and external communications for events, conferences, and public appearances.

Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree. Educational background or degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field a plus.
    • Experience: 3+ years of experience in communications, PR, or social media management, preferably in a leadership role. This can include experience with a political campaign and work on a University-related publication.
    • Excellent Writing Skills: Proven ability to write clearly, concisely, and creatively across a variety of platforms.
    • Online Advocacy: Prior experience with online organizing and/or fundraising campaigns.
    • Social Media Expertise: Strong knowledge of social media trends, platform best practices, and content management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social).
    • Creative & Strategic Thinker: Ability to think strategically, balancing creativity with results-driven execution.
    • Attention to Detail: Strong editing and proofreading skills with an emphasis on accuracy and quality.
    • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with digital tools for content creation, media outreach, and analytics (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite).

Desired Skills (Preferred):

    • Familiarity with SEO principles and digital marketing tactics.
    • Proficiency in video content creation and editing for social media.
