Job Description Sr. Automation Engineer I Essential Duties and Job Functions: Responsible for overseeing and maintaining automation-based systems and solutions which provide for flexible, innovative, cost effective, compliant, and quality-focused Research and Development Pharmaceutical environment. The automation systems include but not limited to the following: Process/Building Automation Lab Automation Lead the design, development, implementation/integration of automation solutions utilizing the Ignition SCADA platform and MQTT (Sparkplug) technology. Implements automation changes to existing control system hardware and software, and supervises modifications done by outside vendors, including development of specifications and testing documentation. This includes system in non-GMP and GMP controlled environment. Automation Projects and CapEx: Developing, planning, and implementing automation-based projects and solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including determination and delivery on cost, time and quality to ensure the sustained production, successful product launches and customer satisfaction. Develop and leverage data analytics to help drive data-based decisions with operations and maintenance groups and help optimize operations. Manage modern automation applications in containers. Utilize Docker or Podman to deploy and manage automation applications efficiently and effectively. Manage ESX, Linux, and Windows virtual machines, optimize their configurations to support automation workflows. Drive digital innovation within the group by exploring and piloting new digital solutions to enhance work efficiency, sustainability, and compliance. Supports creation, modification, and maintenance of automation documentation, including automation specification documents and SOPs, in a compliant state. Supports the validation of automation systems with the QA Validation group. Supports automation technical standards and procedures. Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively work in cross functional teams, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple projects. Experience working in a self-driven, performance/results oriented, fast paced matrix environment. Proven track record of driving digital innovation and delivering impactful automation solutions. Strong familiarity with ISA-88 and ISA-95 standards. Extensive experience with Ignition SCADA platform and MQTT (Sparkplug) technology. Gold Certified Ignition Engineer. The following are the required technical experiences: Ignition from Inductive Automation Core Modules (including Perspective, Alarming, SQL Bridge, Reporting). PLC (including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Micro800 series PLCs). Common industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, ModBus, Ethernet/IP, etc.) Node-RED, JavaScript, and Python programming. Experience in managing VMware ESXi, Linux, and Windows virtual machines. Proficiency in Docker containers, with the ability to deploy and manage containerized applications. Previous experience in the life sciences industry is a plus. Experience in .NET Visual Studio is a plus. Able to work onsite 4 days a week at minimum. Education and Experience BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university At least 7 years relevant engineering experience. The salary range for this position is: $133,280.00 - $172,480.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
