The Supply Chain team is responsible for the sourcing, planning, procurement, warehousing, and transportation of all raw materials and components needed to build our revolutionary spacecraft and launch vehicles. Our mission is to get the right part in the right place at the right time, every time.
The Supplier Inspection Programs team works in the Supply Chain Reliability organization and is charged with catching supplier defects before they leave the supplier. Supplier Inspection Programs looks to do this as efficiently and effectively as possible, and leverages it’s presence at suppliers to support additional supplier monitoring activities.
As a Supplier Development Engineer – Supplier Inspection Programs, you would join a team of engineers/specialists, and SpaceX and third party field inspectors, ensuring product purchased from suppliers meets SpaceX technical and production requirements prior to shipping to SpaceX. You would lead efforts to increase team effectiveness, reduce quality escapes, improve team efficiency, and reduce overall SpaceX cost. You would be responsible to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement, and work with team members to lead the resulting projects to completion. As Supplier Inspection Program activities support all areas of SpaceX, you would build an extensive network within design engineering, build reliability, production, and supply chain management, and a deep understanding of SpaceX systems and processes. This experience would enable you to become a critical voice in the development of group and company strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and execute plans to ensure supplier defects are caught at suppliers
- Create and execute plans to expand the value of on-site supplier presence by engaging in supplier correct action verification, supplier WIP audits, supplier training, etc.
- Present details and status to executive management
- Develop policies, standards, processes, and documentation as necessary to ensure continued success
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree in an engineering field
- 2+ years of experience in supply chain, engineering, or quality related field
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in engineering or business administration
- Good written, oral, and presentation skills
- Technical capabilities including knowledge of 2D blueprints and model drawings
- Experience with AS9100 or similar quality management system standard
- QMS and process audit experience
- Knowledge of supplier quality processes (Production Part Approval Process, Advanced Product Quality Planning, First Article Inspection Reports, etc.)
- Disciplined approach to problem solving - 8D
- Good written, oral, and presentation skills
- Ability to operate autonomously and self-direct
- Previous experience working with suppliers, corrective/ preventive action systems, supplier portals
- Experience in quality engineering, auditing, quality management system development
- Preferred skills or experience include: SQL, software development & project management, process flow mapping, material planning systems, warehouse management systems, lean production environments, six sigma training
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Position may involve long hours and weekend work as needed
- Position may involve up to 25% travel as needed
