Who We Are: Our Commercial organization leads our global sales and marketing strategies around the world. Our integrated team continues to solidify BioMarin's commercial presence in the United States and Europe and is rapidly growing in other regions, such as Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

Summary: The Executive Director, U.S. Marketing is responsible for commercial strategy, planning, brand marketing, and execution for the portfolio of BioMarin rare disease products in the U.S., including pipeline commercialization efforts. The Executive Director provides leadership direction to cross-functional teams to maximize short and long-term franchise value, including both in-line and pre-launch products. This position reports to the Group Vice President, U.S. Commercial and is an integral member of the U.S. Commercial Leadership Team, and a key stakeholder to global brand leadership teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leads and establishes strategic objectives and structure for the U.S. marketing function.
  2. Provides overall leadership for all BioMarin U.S. commercial brand teams, which comprise marketing, sales, field-based clinical support, market access, trade, operations, managed markets, patient services, etc.
  3. Influences and collaborates with commercial and medical functions in the United States for effective and efficient operational excellence and to ensure functional team goal alignment.
  4. Directly involved in the hiring for all members of the U.S. Marketing and Marketing Operations teams and provides oversight for management and development.
  5. Oversees brand marketing and pre-marketing plans and associated budgets, and is responsible for managing execution against plans and budgets.
  6. Provides strategic guidance related to annual brand plans and global Integrated Brand Strategy in close partnership with other pertinent functions including Global Product Strategy, Field Sales, Global and Regional Commercial Operations, Market Access, and Medical Affairs.
  7. Engages routinely with leadership from cross-functional partner teams such as Global Product Strategy, Compliance, Regulatory, Program Management, Clinical Development, and any other BioMarin stakeholders associated with U.S. Commercial activities to evaluate strategic considerations across the portfolio of products.
  8. Contributes leadership skills, knowledge & abilities in helping to identify/create innovative strategies, plans & tactics for long-term brand growth.
  9. Oversees launch teams and develops the commercial launch strategy for pre-launch products.
  10. Maintains strong relations with essential key opinion leaders and leaders of important external policy initiatives.
  11. Works with brand marketing leads to manage relationships of key Patient Advocacy groups for marketed products, including the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA), the National MPS Society, The Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA), LPA, and others.
  12. Member of U.S. Commercial Leadership Team.
  13. Member of Global Brand Leadership Team.
  14. Ad hoc participant of Global Integrated Brand Team(s).
  15. Assumes fiduciary responsibility for all marketing-related cost centers.
  16. Represents brand performance and challenges as needed to BioMarin executive management.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum 10 years of related marketing experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
  2. Minimum 10 years experience managing a diverse portfolio of products.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of direct and indirect management experience overseeing diverse teams with a broad range of marketing capabilities, including external agencies and vendors.
  4. Minimum 5 years of leadership experience developing exceptional teams, people, and programs and cultivating strong cross-functional connections with key internal stakeholders.
  5. Strong technical marketing training, along with digital and omni-channel experience in small and large therapeutic markets in the U.S.
  6. Relevant and recent experience in highly competitive marketplaces.
  7. Experience in the rare disease marketplace preferred.
  8. Global Marketing experience desirable.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Arts or Science; MBA or JD welcomed.
