The Valves, Actuators, and Ducts division of the Propulsion Engineering department is searching for a Mechanical Technician to support the Component Development Area (CDA). The CDA is a world-class small fabrication shop and testing laboratory supporting development and testing of space flight components and systems. The selected candidate must have practical experience and demonstrate knowledge in a wide range of technical and engineering methods that support tests at the CDA. Candidate will fabricate tubing, fixtures, pneumatic panels, hydraulic assemblies, and various mechanical systems; candidate will operate and maintain complex mechanical systems utilized in testing of space flight components. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Work directly with engineering personnel and/or higher-level technicians on the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of components and systems Usage and safe operation of mills, tube flaring equipment, saws, plate shears, grinders, and presses Welding using various methodologies to assemble frames, test fixtures, and support assemblies for component testing Utilize detailed test procedures for safe operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogen, and high-pressure gas systems Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for buildup and testing of flight type hardware and test components Utilize various tools and methods to perform work and maintenance on a variety of mechanical, fluid, and electrical components Fabrication, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic, cryogenic, pneumatic, and high-pressure gas systems Job Requirements: Educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent and 6 years relevant previous experience that proves mechanical aptitude and ability to work effectively without direct supervision or e a technical degree and 2 years relevant previous experience. Required: Ability to communicate effectively with design engineers, test engineers, and other technicians in problem resolution, work coordination, and operation of mechanical systems Ability to read and follow mechanical blueprints and schematics for pneumatic and hydraulic systems and follow work area rules and safety protocols Ability to follow written and verbal instructions including established procedures to safely assist in construction of systems to perform structural and fluid testing Proficient operational experience in standard and complex mechanical equipment and systems Perform training assignments including on-the-job training designed to develop professional working knowledge and abilities Ability to work in a team environment Safety-conscious mindset Excellent organizational and customer relationship skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
