We're actively seeking a talented Sr Data Scientist to join our SMS Data Science Team in Newport Beach, CA. This role can be hybrid or 100% remote (depending on location).


As a Senior Data Scientist, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by providing model driven insights to business partners. If you have worked on projects with business partners to deliver insights through analytical modelling and rapid hypothesis testing, you're a great fit for this role.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Lead the development and implementation of data-driven models and algorithms to enhance the underwriting process.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, actuarial, and technology, to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.

  • Analyze large and complex datasets to extract actionable insights and support decision-making.

  • Develop predictive models to assess risk and improve underwriting accuracy.

  • Implement machine learning techniques to automate and optimize underwriting workflows.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in data science and machine learning.

  • Mentor and guide junior data scientists and analysts.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders through clear and concise reports and presentations.


The experience you bring:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience (8+ years) as a Data Scientist in the life/health insurance industry.

  • Knowledge of life insurance underwriting processes and regulations is a strong plus.

  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, scikit-learn).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Base Pay Range: The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$159,660.00 - $195,140.00
