The Opportunity

We are seeking a Project Engineer with a focus on Mechanical discipline, who have knowledge and experience in the execution of engineering and design activities of projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for scope development, design oversight, leading third party engineering contractors, material procurement and providing technical support throughout the project life-cycle to minimize cost and reduce risks.

What you'll do
  • Gathers information from previous experience to improve internal design practices towards higher safety standards
  • Completes complex technical and logistical assignments and/or coordinates and manages projects of significant scope and/or large teams
  • Responsible for the gathering of technical data of Growth and Interconnect projects in early stages of development for the determination of the best engineering approach for their implementation
  • Responsible for the engineering work associated to Growth and Interconnect projects in natural gas meter station and pipelines
  • Responsible for scheduling internal and third-party engineering resources
  • Leads the compilation of data associated to bidding documentation for the selection of third party engineering firms
  • Responsible for reviewing third party engineering bid documents, engineering firms proposals and evaluating them for selection
  • Responsible for all engineering deliverables associated to assigned projects that are decided to be executed in-house
  • Responsible for the preparation of plans, designs, calculations, estimates and bills of materials, etc. for complex and unique situations
  • Generates and reviews recommendations for soundness of judgment and determination of acceptance as technically accurate and feasible
  • With the support of internal departments, responsible for the management of project specific engineering contracts
  • Responsible for scheduling design reviews and ensuring proper stakeholder engagementsWorks to balance and prioritize engineer and third-party workload
  • Works to balance and prioritize engineer and third-party workload
  • Responsible for engineering deliverables and material procurement schedule being created, monitored and adhered to
  • Triggers material procurement process for all project items to be purchased by the Company
  • Reviews all material requisitions against company standards and specifications as applicable to project scope
  • Expected to resolve conflicts arising with scopes of work and or design decisions
  • Validates/confirms engineering documentation is accurate and complete
  • Ensures all RFIs are being resolved in a timely manner
  • Can resolve RFIs independently or escalate them to 3rd party engineer or technical SMEs when required
  • Monitors RFI reports for improvement, lessons learned and best practices
  • Visit construction site/spread as required
  • Based on independent work, makes engineering recommendations which impact their business unit
  • Resolves issues related to assignments and makes recommendations regarding issues that have a significant impact on the business unit
  • Develops a network of internal and external contacts (e.g. peers, managers, government agencies, landowners, external customers, etc.)
  • May be required to modify established guidelines, devise new approaches, apply existing criteria in new manners
  • Leads others in the understanding, support, promotion and contribution to the business unit's strategy, goals and objectives, contributing to its implementation from individual contribution perspective
  • Transfers knowledge by coaching, mentoring and acting as a role model
  • Responsible for acting with high ethical standards, treating others with honesty and respect, and keeping promises and commitments to stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive, relevant Project Engineering experience in meter stations problem solving and maintenance
  • Experience in the engineering design, construction and commissioning of natural gas facilities (i.e. hot taps, meter stations, short laterals and interconnect piping)
  • Knowledge of applicable natural gas industry construction practices, FERC and agency requirements
  • Applicable gas industry regulatory experience (working knowledge of federal regulatory knowledge, state regulatory knowledge, and natural gas market knowledge) 49 CFR 192
  • Knowledge of engineering design standards and applicable natural gas industry codes and regulations Understands concepts of asset lifecycle management, system reliability and gas transmission operations .
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with designing Pipeline / Facilities projects
  • Experience as a field engineer
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, with the ability to create a vision, clearly communicate direction and drive to goal completion
  • Process development skills with a demonstrated ability to shape and continuously improve business processes
  • Skilled in the areas of team facilitation, collaboration, negotiation and influencing, process mapping, problem solving and creative solutions.
