A Brief Summary of This Position
The Fabricator/Back-Up Laser Operator is an individual contributor who sets up and operates production machines. This role understands gauging and checks fixtures and parts by the machines involved in this classification. The Fabricator/Back-Up Laser Operator ensures alignment to the blueprint and to the frequency rate of the work instruction. This position operates, the Trumpf Laser as a back-up to a primary operator. This position loads and unloads material, ensuring piece/part integrity while operating equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Functions

Accurately uses measuring tape, thread gauges, micrometers, protractors, square combination and dial calipers

Set up and operates production machines in the fabrication department.

Ensure maintenance during PM of machine

Check fixtures and parts and ensures alignment to the blueprint and to the frequency rate of the work instruction.

Operate and maintain the Trumpf equipment
-
Review daily production hot sheets to determine parts and materials needed
-
Loading additional materials into the laser as needed
-
Ability to make adjustments to the laser and other fabrication machines to ensure accuracy of parts
-
Knowledge and ability for troubleshooting of the laser and other fabrication department machines
-
Material Handling of raw and finished products at times using industrial equipment i.e.: forklift

Inspect and replace nozzles as necessary on the laser machine

Recover system from “crashes” resulting from part tip-ups or bad material
-
Cleaning of the laser and slats on a frequent basis
-
Coordination and communication with various departments around materials needed and finished product movement
-
De-nest parts, inspect, sort and place parts in appropriate tubs
-
Print and distribute nest reports to appropriate personnel
-
Remove and properly dispose of scrap
-
The ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs
-
A working knowledge of using e-mail

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

5-7 years of relevant experience
-
Proficient at math
-
Previous experience operating a forklift
-
Accurately read and use a tape measure, compass, micrometer, mag level, protractor, versa gauge, and caliper
-
Ability to locate information from a computer
-
Proficiency in reading flatsheets
-
The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
-
Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
-
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Demonstrated adaptability
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

Experience operating plasma, gas and/or laser shape-cutting machinery
-
CNC programming experience
-
A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and IFS
Educational Background
-
Able to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions
-
Proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, fraction to decimal conversions, and the use of micrometers, protractors, and tape measures
-
Ability to read specifications, bill of material and simple and complex blueprints
Job Training Skill Development
Must pass Valmont forklift certification for all forklifts used in the position.
Decision Making
The decisions the person in this position makes affects inventory accuracy and availability of material for the production and shipping areas. The incumbent is responsible for prioritizing the workload to avoid lost time to all departments. Utilizes product mix in location assuring proper rotation of stored materials. Reviews space allocations and material flow to maximize utilization of space available. Able to apply creativity to solve the problems encountered within the scope of their activity. Examples would be to receive material, issue material or resolve inventory discrepancies and implement the appropriate action to correct them.
Physical Effort
Operates equipment the majority of time. Lifts materials up to 50 pounds. Pushes and pulls materials <50 lbs approximately 10 to 15% of the time. Standing, stooping, bending, sitting and squatting 100% of the shift.
