POSITION TITLE: Contracts Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Contracts Administrator provides contract management support to the Office of Technology Development (OTD) and interacts with other departments within Scripps Research and entities outside Scripps Research. This role processes and tracks contracts, develops and manages digital files and databases, and supports documentation of incoming technology disclosures.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Works with faculty, staff and other Scripps Research departments to facilitate on-line requests, processing, and execution of Confidential Disclosure Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, Data Use Agreements and other OTD agreements.
  • Responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating Confidential Disclosure Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Collaboration Agreements, Data Use Agreements and other OTD agreements.
  • Assists Licensing and Transactions team with administrative needs associated with licensee/partner compliance in contractual matters including tracking and sourcing progress reports.
  • Updates and tracks multiple agreements in Inteum (database), ensuring transaction activity is documented and related documents are attached.
  • Provides back-up support in managing the flow of intellectual property to and from corporate partners.
  • Prepares ad hoc reports; edits, proofreads, and formats reports to department specifications.
  • Maintains and manages all department files and processes a variety of general and complex correspondence.
  • Participates and presents information in staff meetings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent job experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of contracts management or paralegal experience required.
  • Ability to read and understand contracts, analyze and identify issues within contracts and process transactions in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Exceptional analytic capabilities and attention to detail; particular emphasis on ability to accurately cross-reference agreements, inventions and inventor information.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Database knowledge and experience; aptitude and willingness to learn new systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects independently.
  • Must possess a cooperative, service-oriented attitude and be able to work under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor with colleagues and research staff.
  • Demonstrated diplomacy and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $75,000 annually to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
