About the role
Rippling is seeking a Director, Accounting in our Revenue and Accounting function. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a growing team of experienced accounting professionals, evolving the accounting processes, as Rippling delivers new solutions to our customers, and optimizing our month end close operations through programmatic automations. In this role you will partner closely with a large group of cross-functional business partners from product, engineering, finance, and legal to develop scalable accounting and operation solutions. You set governance and strategy in managing the accounting solutions for the dynamically evolving suite of products we offer to our customers. An independent and critical thinker, you love gleaning insights and learning from data and information, and embrace complexity and changes. You are experienced in moving fast while solving problems in a scalable way. You combine business acumen and technical accounting knowledge to provide sound advice to your business partners.
About the Team
The Accounting team is responsible for accurate financial reporting and compliance with financial policies and regulations. Our team is spread across the USA, India, UK, and Ireland. Our diverse team consists of professionals spread across the United States, Ireland, and India, with more international locations coming soon. Over the last couple of years, our team has grown exponentially to support a complex, multi-product company that operates globally.
What you will do
- Lead the ongoing revenue automation process, and work with IT to prioritize further potential system enhancements and development projects related to the revenue function.
- Build and coach a world-class controllership team that drives insights, design, and accounting processes that support Rippling’s revenue recognition.
- Manage an accurate and timely month-end close by driving automation solutions.
- Build deep relationships with key sales, product, and engineering leadership, to support the launch of our products, including those teams responsible for our billing and contracting systems.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team on new partnership arrangements.
- Uphold high standards of controllership through the development, implementation, and operations of internal controls.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date revenue recognition policies.
- Matrix management capabilities to communicate with and educate finance and non-finance personnel on revenue accounting guidance, Rippling specific policies and procedures as well as inputs on structuring of customer arrangements.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships across Customer Service, Legal, Product, Sales, FP&A, Accounting, and Tax teams.
- Research and review technical revenue accounting memos that address the issue, and provide analysis and conclusions related to various customer contracts or new technical revenue pronouncements.
- Ensure the integrity of key processes by understanding systems, flow of transactions, internal controls, and recommending efficiency and effectiveness improvements.
- Subject matter expert on revenue accounting rules.
- Provide revenue education and training to other groups within Rippling.
- Liaison with external auditors, present significant item updates, along with supporting documentation for the quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
What you will need
- CPA is required, with 12-15 years of professional experience including significant management and SaaS industry experience.
- A combination of public company experience in a revenue leadership role and experience with public accounting firms.
- Polished communication skills, including an ability to listen to the needs of the business units, research and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear and simplified manner, and present findings and recommendations in both oral and written presentations.
- Strong ability to work well within a team structure and an ability to influence, train, mentor and leverage the skills of others to achieve objectives.
- Experience with systems and processes including Salesforce, Snowflake, and Netsuite. Other revenue recognition solutions such as RevPro is a plus.
- Experience working with data sets and SQL across standard commercial databases or equivalent programming/scripting experience.
