Yes County Albany Street Address Office of Design 50 Wolf Road City Albany State NY Zip Code 12232 Duties Description These positions will be filled/located in the Office of Design within Design Bureau, Design Consultant Management, Design Quality Assurance Bureau, and/or the Design Mapping and Automation Bureau.General duties may include, but are not limited to the following and will depend on the bureau that is the best fit for the candidate(s):•Coordinate reviews and processing by other internal and external involved parties (e.g., FHWA)•Use various technologies, computer databases, systems and other applications for the timely input and analysis of data•Identify and conduct assessments of potential contract processing issues and communicate any findings/concerns to your supervisor and/or other appropriate persons•Respond in a timely manner to written and verbal requests for information regarding bureau/Office of Design processes or the status of deliverables•Work with other staff to ensure all unit assignment deadlines are met•Participate in the development and review of revisions to policies, forms, procedures, and work-related technologies and applications•Prepare 3D CADD drawings for highway and bridge projects and presentations/plans/reports for public meetings•Assist with the development of the engineer’s estimate•Visit project sites and attend occasional meetings in the Regional Offices•Prepare written reports for site visits including pictures to document project work•Other duties to be discussed during the interview(s) for the specific bureausIn the Design Mapping & Automation Bureau this position may include the following duties: Manage the Department's Engineering Document Management System (ProjectWise). Collect and analyze technology usage, process, quality, information technologies, and organizational effectiveness data required to assess performance and make recommendations to Office of Design managers. Use various department-wide technologies, computer databases, systems, and other applications for the timely collection and analysis of data. Monitor and report on statewide trends to ensure that desired goals and targets are being achieved. Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems (including the Engineering Document Management System), procedures, and manuals in support of capital project development and delivery. Promote and manage statewide best practices through proper use of CADD applications during the project development and design process.Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Promotional: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetics), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils).Open Competitive:Either 1. FOUR years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority;Or 2. an associate's degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology AND TWO years of experience listed above in number 1;Or 3. a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology,landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology.Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. Additional Comments *This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education.
