Our long-term client relationship with Jacobs has led to a need for a Systems Engineer - Dust Mitigation on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer-Dust Mitigation to join the team with Barrios, a teammate company.

Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer - Dust Mitigation will:

    Participate in a team environment for Artemis mission development and planning, working with NASA's Human
    Landing System (HLS) Partners to develop plans and technology for the mitigation, control, and management of dust
    contamination for lunar surface exploration.
  • Work will include those systems and technologies needed to prevent dust accumulation on lunar surface EVA tools and
    suits, as well as dust removal and control to prevent dust in the crew cabin volumes.
  • Contribute to mission planning with dust mitigation and control in mind.
  • Work in partnership with JSC lab facilities to conduct ground-based testing of dust mitigation and control methods and
    technologies using lunar simulant and simulated space environment, development space suits, and development lunar
    surface tools.
  • Perform insight function to assess Provider progress and hardware/software adequacy through the design, development,
    development testing, qualification, acceptance, certification, and flight readiness for the HLS mission.
  • Review/contribute to the development of HLS program documentation (plans, requirements, etc.) and relevant crossprogram
    plans and documents (Gateway, Orion, EHP).
  • Support and participate in HLS Program forums, boards, and milestone reviews as well as those of Provider(s) and
    relevant/significant sub-contractors.
  • Also, participate in working groups and technical interchange meetings.
  • Provide HLS Program management with assessment reports and summary of findings through a monthly Insight Report.
  • Maintain and update the Discipline Lead Insight Plan for Dust Mitigation within Crew Compartment Office.
  • Participation in cross-program analysis activities, to inform requirements maturation and assess system performance &
    risks on a case-by-case basis.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: (FORMAT OF VARYING LEVEL SHOWN BELOW -- only use if multiple levels appies)

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school plus a minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school, plus (5) years of experience in the field or a related area

-OR-

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school, may be expected to have a related Master's Degree, plus (10) years of related experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Experience with product specifications or requirements, design or hardware analysis, development of experimental or
    operational procedures, risk analysis, and system analysis of critical hardware.
  • Prior experience working in a lab environment with development test & evaluation for engineering hardware.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as
    mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, and material selection.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
