JOB TITLE: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER III

DEPARTMENT: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

REPORTS TO: SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT

Job Summary:

Under indirect supervision, design electrical systems for aircraft installations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for electrical schematics and harness diagrams of UAV and the ground station
  • Responsible for COTS avionics interconnections to the baseline electrical systems
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the custom avionics technical data packages
  • Responsible for the aircraft power budget (generation capacity vs power draw)
  • Creation of technical data packages including schematics, BOM, manufacturing instructions, test procedures and end user instructions
  • Work in a team environment on requested changes to the baseline design
  • Review and plan requested changes to the electrical system, including estimating schedule, budget, and tasking
  • Lead a small team of electrical engineers, including coordination of tasks, schedule, budget requests and delivery
  • Coordination with Mechanical, Aerospace and Software Engineering on design requirements including schedule, budget, testing and documentation
  • Coordination with mechanical and electrical technicians for the integration of new payloads, within responsibility of TDP development and post-installation test verifications
  • Coordination with quality assurance for review and verification of designs
  • Planning and execution of electrical systems tests toward FAA or DoD aircraft standards
  • Recommends electrical system changes within provided technical roadmap and strategy documents
  • Other required duties as assigned

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Design, or other fields with relevant electrical engineering experience
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in electrical engineering and software development for system level integration and testing
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
  • Direct experience in the development of electrical systems for unmanned aircraft or other robotic systems
  • Working knowledge of power generation and load analysis
  • Experience with circuit design including PCB design, debugging, and unit/system level testing
  • Experience with electronic components, wire harnesses, and test instrumentation e.g. oscilloscopes, DMM, power supply and RF meters
  • Professional experience working with sensors, IMUs, optical and GPS
  • Experience with firmware development.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Proficient in circuit and system level documentation, organizational and communication skills.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering
  • Understanding design requirements of hardware in high vibration and temperature environments
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, LabView and National Instruments Systems
  • Experience with interface such as SPI, I2C, CAN, GPIB, and USB.
  • Working knowledge of embedded PCB design and writing low-level firmware
  • Experience with computer schematic drawing packages
  • Experience with electrical simulation software
