Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a highly motivated Business Development Manager -Strategic Initiatives & Task Forces for our award-winning Business Development team. This team drives the growth of the firm's market share and competitive position through eight (and growing) initiatives, including opportunities around the growth of sovereign wealth funds around the globe, and increasing congressional investigations into a variety of hot topics.
To provide exceptional client service, Morgan Lewis recognizes that its lawyers and business development team need to be able to look around the corner to understand what external global and market events could affect our clients' businesses. To do that effectively, we created a cross-practice approach to addressing emerging or evolving business areas through our strategic initiatives and task forces.
The Manager plays a key role in framing and analyzing trends and complex business problems within those strategic initiatives and task forces, developing recommendations, partnering with senior leaders and partners to drive implementation, facilitating communication processes, and developing pragmatic solutions to drive successful business and client development initiatives. Primary responsibilities include:
Develops growth goals for our strategic initiatives with input from leaders and senior team members.
Prepares and manages implementation plans, regularly reviewing progress to ensure strategies remain relevant and aligned with firm growth priorities, adjusting and modifying as needed.
Identifies and reviews market, industry and legal trends; analyzes and applies this information in development of go-to-market growth strategies for strategic initiative teams.
Monitors business climate, trends in development, and government activity in areas of the firm's current and anticipated services lines within assigned initiatives.
Drives direct client outreach around these trends, including responding to RFPs and RFIs.
Manages and analyzes internal data (e.g., clients, capabilities, services, profitability) within assigned industries.
Drives working groups, initiatives, and special projects.
Prepares quarterly reports on key metrics, strategic priorities, and trends and developments for leadership and firm management.
Prepares annual partner meeting sessions.
Collaborates with team to ensure consistency across all business development team efforts and alignment with firm priorities.
Works on projects and initiatives cross-functionally with multiple teams including marketing & communications, business intelligence, business operations, competitive intelligence, and practice operations.
Experience and qualifications: Bachelor's degree and seven years of related business/client development, and/or marketing experience including proven strategic planning and execution expertise. MBA desired.
Law firm or other professional services consulting, business/client development, or marketing experience preferred.
Experience excelling in a highly matrixed work environment with ability to work across time zones with global teams and multiple business units.
Strong financial acumen, analytical, and project management skills.
Prior experience creating and presenting strategic growth plans to senior management.
Excellent attention to detail while understanding and driving towards the macro picture.
Very strong knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit, yet highly collaborative in working with colleagues across departments, offices, and skill levels.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
