The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) Human Resources Director oversees human resources management and human resource development activities for the Environmental Protection Division to maximize the strategic use of human resources. Under the limited supervision of the EPD Director, the Human Resources Director advises senior and mid-level management and provides strategic support in the human resources-related areas including, but not limited to, performance management and employee development, organizational structure, job classification, recruitment and selection, compensation, policy development, regulatory compliance, workforce planning, strategic staffing, and employee/management relations. Other duties include serving as the EPD coordinator for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, creating and engaging in the design, development, and implementation of training programs and strategies, managing the division employee complaint/grievance process, conducting employment-related investigations, managing/supervising professional human resources staff, reviewing and making recommendations to executive management for improvement of the division's policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters. Overseeing visa-related processes, including H-1B, L-1, and green card applications, and liaising with legal counsel as needed. Directing staff in appropriately processing personnel transactions, and maintaining knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation to ensure the division's compliance. Minimum Qualifications : High school diploma/GED and six years of managerial or supervisory experience in human resources; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Sr Mgr, Human Resources (HRM012) or position equivalent. An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience as a Human Resources Director or Assistant Human Resources Director with a State of Georgia government agency 7-10 years of human resources management experience Experience advising senior management on personnel matters SHRM certification Excellent written and verbal communication skills Familiarity with state and federal employment laws
