Product Design Manager
Menlo Ventures, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
About the role
We’re seeking a talented Design Manager to join the growing Product Design team at Chime. You’ll oversee our expansion into new financial products and enable our members to access money when they need it, build credit, and grow wealth. You’ll manage designers and roadmaps while contributing to critical cross-functional projects. Your focus will be both making finance simple for our members and making the Chime design team amazing for our employees.
As a Design Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing and growing a product design team. You’ll guide designers towards quality design and UX outcomes for our members while teaching them to stay mindful of business needs and constraints. You’ll lead by example as you facilitate cross-functional collaboration and identify opportunities for the design team to operate more strategically, holistically, and effectively. You’ll work closely with the Design Director as you establish a gold standard for design execution and a vision for the future of Chime’s products. Most importantly, you’ll work with each designer on career development and personal growth, ensuring that Chime isn’t just a job, but a place designers can launch their careers.
In this role, you can expect to
Advocate for and enable user-first design decisions, ensuring that our products solve real problems effectively and meaningfully.
Empower your team by providing mentorship, clear direction, and removing obstacles to help them succeed.
Set and uphold a high standard for design excellence, serving as a role model and advocate for design within Chime and beyond.
Key partner contributing to roadmapping, priority setting, and design delivery across multiple product development teams.
Effectively communicate design vision and decisions, fostering collaboration and alignment with cross-functional partners, including product managers, engineers, researchers, and executives.
Implement and manage design project management best practices, including creating Gantt views to track timelines, dependencies, and deliverables. Ensure alignment with team capacity and business goals, fostering cross-functional collaboration and driving timely delivery of high-quality design outputs.
Manage and iterate upon our team processes, support career growth, and foster a collaborative and inclusive design culture.
Comfortable with ambiguity, wearing multiple hats, helping to work on any project as needed.
To thrive in this role, you have
A Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, product design, or related design field (or applicable experience).
7+ years of proven history shipping consumer mobile and/or web products.
1+ years of experience managing and building design teams.
The attitude of leadership from behind and a knack for inspiring others to be their best every day.
The ability to balance business objectives with user needs and team needs. You represent all sides of the business and know how to create the best outcomes for each.
A relentless desire to make finance work for our user’s benefit.
What we offer
A thoughtful hybrid work policy that combines in-office days and trips to team and company-wide events depending on location to ensure you stay connected to your work and teammates, whether you’re local to one of our offices or remote.
Hybrid work perks, like UrbanSitter and Kinside for backup child, elder and/or pet care, as well as a subsidized commuter benefit.
Competitive salary based on experience.
401k match plus great medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
Generous vacation policy and company-wide Take Care of Yourself Days.
Mental health support with therapy and coaching through Modern Health.
Access to Maven, a family planning tool, with up to $10k in reimbursement for egg freezing, fertility treatments, adoption, and more.
In-person and virtual events to connect with your fellow Chimers—think cooking classes, guided meditations, music festivals, mixology classes, paint nights, etc.
A challenging and fulfilling opportunity to join one of the most experienced teams in FinTech and help millions unlock financial progress.
We know that great work can’t be done without a diverse team and inclusive environment. That’s why we specifically look for individuals of varying strengths, skills, backgrounds, and ideas to join our team. We believe this gives us a competitive advantage to better serve our members and helps us all grow as Chimers and individuals.
We hire candidates of any race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital or family status, disability, Veteran status, and any other status.
